LOL, I wish, but, unfortunately, one of the definitions of a cult is a single charismatic leader who founded the religion. Jesus doesn't count since he didn't found anything. Christianity was founded by Paul, not Jesus. So while Christian fundamentalists are hateful, shrill, ignorant, and blind, they are not, technically, a cult. BTW, I was raised Southern Baptist so I speak from first-hand experience and know that I am labelling some of my oldest friends. So be it.
EDIT: I got a laugh about the "Christians condemn terrorism" comment. How many times have fundamentalist Christians risen up to denounce the bombing of an abortion clinic? There is deathly silence instead. No, they don't condemn terrorism when it is conducted in the name of something they believe in.

No, because the foundation of their beliefs is accurate. A cult has a human leader and a fallible belief system.
Fundamendalists are simply overzealous and fail to adhere to the same guidelines they profess to others (e.g. tolerance, kindness, love, pacificity, etc.). But simply because they're not "doing it right" doesn't mean they're a cult and are completely wrong. They simply need to read their Bible again, and a bit better at that...
p.s. I do believe, however, that Christians should be quicker to denounce the actions and words of their Fundamentalist "brothers" and "sisters," because otherwise, a false image of Christianity is perpetuated in a world that's already confused and misguided enough. People have a bad enough stereotype of Christians without having it reinforced by those who aren't following a true Christian lifestyle...

cult (kult)
NOUN:
A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
This definition from YAHOO Dictionary does NOT define mainstream Christianity. Unfortunately there are those out in left field in ALL religions that fall into the definition of Cult.
Don't condemn the majority because of the actions of the few.

When a Christian commits an act that can be classified as "terrorism" , the Christian community generally rises up and denounces them. We do not tolerate that kind of activity in our midst nor do we preach or teach it. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Islam. Do you see Islamic leaders going before the media denouncing terrorist activities? We also don't indoctrinate our children with hatred for others nor elevate those who cause death and destruction as martyrs or heroes. And please do not classify "Christian Fundamentalists" as those who condone violence, it simply means we adhere to the fundamentals of our faith.

Not ALL the Muslims here have denounced Islamic terrorism. That being said, I think Christian Fundamentalism seem more and more like a cult every day.

JW's at the instant are not a cult. enable me define the be conscious "cult" for you because you of course do no longer comprehend the definition. A cult is a faith that's suggested to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion in accordance to a prescribed ritual. A cult many times follows a residing human chief, and frequently its adherents stay in communities aside fom society. the common for what's orthodox, although, would desire to be God's be conscious, and Jehovah's Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a lifestyle, no longer a ritual devotion. They neither persist with a human chief nor isolate themselves from something of society. They stay and artwork interior the middle of human beings. and of direction, our chief is Christ. :) i'm advantageous in case you re-be conscious the question, it may be favored by many. Jenny

They should be classed as a politically extremist group.
There will always be people that want to turn a religion around to suit their own will. They can call themselves Christians if they want but they obviously aren't. There is no similarity between the teachings of Christ and the opinions of these people. They aren't a majority on Answers but the things they say are sometimes so AntiChristian and hateful that they blot out those who have something to say. They'd be shouting over Christ as well....and accusing him of witchcraft, communism and planning his assasination.
2000 years and mankind just gets worse constantly.
As annoying as it is, if you're going to reprimand them, do it politely. Don't feed them with hatred, they have enough of that for everybody.

Just like all Muslims shouldn't be tarred with the same brush so all Christians shouldn't, and just because someone says they are Christian or Muslim it doesn't make them one. When you find answers or questions like that report them for inciting hatred and violence. They're not Christians they're not Muslims - they're just internet trolls.

You do! Why else are you here.
