Regardless of how much money you have, it is not always wise for a teen to have an expensive car. If it's their first car they probably do not know how to take care of it, and you don't know how well they will drive safely. Also insurance costs would be ridiculous, and unless you're also going to pay that for them, then they probably couldn't afford to insure a Hummer or something. Let alone gas prices. And if this is all being paid for them, then they need to learn responsibility! Better to start with something reliable so you know they are safe, but not flashy so they show off and end up hurt. A Toyota Camry, or even an SUV like a Ford Explorer.

I'd get the teen a relatively inexpensive car till they prove to me that they can drive without hitting things. My first car was a $300 53 Merc, my son's first car was a $400 Chevy Nova that he bought with money he made picking strawberrys in the 3 summers preceding his 16th birthday. You can bet he took really good care of that car.

Something cheap they can learn how to drive with. I'm 18, i got my first car when i got my lincense it was a 1997 Neon, I just recently got a 2002 Ford Focus, my parents wanted something more reliable for me to go to college in. If i could gotten what i wanted i would have a mustang, but the insurance on a teen girl was to much.

A two or three year old Honda Civic. Very reliable and efficient.

I'd then use the rest of the money to have the best car insurance you can buy.

I would get a teen a job so they can learn responsibility and get their own car. My ex bought my daughter a car and she crashed it twice. He fixed it the first time, and three months later it was totaled. He then bought her another car, and to this day, she thinks everything should be handed to her.

that would totally depend on the teen and their level of responsibility. what can they afford to maintain themselves? did they earn what you're buying them? are they paying for their own maint. and insurance? if you're buying them a car, what are you going to do to top it? a house? an island? kids need to learn responsibility, and buying a teen an expensive car is something you'll just have to keep on topping, or kids just won't know how to deal with life when the one who buys them everything is no longer around.
