It seems to me that the illegal immigration debate of who is right and who is wrong has become very focused on land....who took what land from who, who deserves to have it back, etc. In my belief "America" is a way of life, a band of people, a belief system, a culture. "America" is not land. America is a principal of freedom that was drempt of, fought for, gifted to others, many people died for, and many continue to fight for. Thanks to our ancestors we have something to believe in and it's not the land, it's a Way of life. Have we gotten so lost in our monetary selfishness that we have forgotten, America the DREAM? The men and their families who came here weren't seeking land. They came here pursuing freedom from Tyrany and the right to practice their own beliefs. America is a way of life. Anyone who still believes in America should be fighting for the basic fundamental principals our ancestors drempt of. The land or who was here first talk has nothing to do with "America".

Our DREAM is in jeopardy when we turn our focus to the land.

And one of those principles is sovereignty and the right to self governance. That means we get to control the land as well.

I claim the entire north american continent as my home. Yet I do not trespass on land which is owned by others, that is against the law and not my way. I am an American citizen, with rights, privileges, and most of all responsibilities. I try to live the American dream, though sometimes it is difficult, the way things are going.
Darthdad, I really like your answer, if this were my question you would be chosen as best. It truly is the "ideal" of America that the entire world looks to for a model of civilization in these modern times.
I feel truly privileged to be a citizen of this dream called America. Come visit some time, its a nice place.
Bapboy, do you truly believe what you say about Americans? There are many who do see the truth, not all have the wool pulled over their eyes.

We can compare this to what is going on between Israel and the Palestinians.
60 years ago the UN, UK and US gave the Palestinians land to the Jews, most of whom were European, quite a few American Jews. The Palestinians had been there for 2000 years, yet were forced to give up the land.
It has been pointed out that the Jews have developed the country and are prosperous; however the many of the Palestinians were nomadic tribes and it was still their country.
So, there are no lofty principals involved , it is simply , "Might Makes Right".

** I think if we deport all illegals, there'll be a big mess. And if this happens, I think every employeer should be fined and jailed.

If we give the South West to the illegals, we should also knock down every building and leave it like it was before we got there. Barren land. This being done, there would be a new boundary, right? So free medical care as well as anything they're getting here is gone. Basically this would just be expanding Mexico. But once that would be done, America closes the door on them and takes it's stuff with it. I'd be willing to make that deal seeing as the South West is mostly full of illegals anyway.
What's say illegals? Do we have a deal?

This idealistic 'dream' of America may have been what your ancestors felt but now it is just a dream and nothing more. It has been for as long as you or your father or your father's father has been an American. It is certainly NOT the Land of the Free. Definitely not to people who "come here pursuing freedom from tyranny and the right to practice their own beliefs." This is the dream that immigrants want - to be able to settle and live in peace and unpersecuted. However, it is the bad elements in the minority of immigrants and a media manipulation that shows people what they want to see that causes people like some of the Answerers here to say things like "they're all criminals".

America is ruled now by the ideal "every man for himself". All issues concerning the welfare of others is secondary or ignored - environmental issues, welfare, schools, etc. The government and media focus on issues that keep Americans scared - for their own jobs, for their own security, and this in turn has created whole generations of xenophobic selfish people, a more compliant people, likely to be against gun control, welfare, minimum wage rises all for fear of job losses and fear that foreigners will benefit at their expense. Americans so far have been very easy to manipulate.

It is not a matter of whom took the land away from Mexico hundreds of years ago....to those posting saying that illegals have no rights in this country I strongly suggest that they get educated about the CONSTITUTION and its ammendments regarding immigration and Immigrants!! ....Lets don't forget that the USA has been built based on IMMIGRANTS....Ilegals are here in the US pursuing a better life and matter of fact they are a tremendous work force in America ...they are taking crappy jobs that Americans refuse to take.. i really can not imagine what would happen if they kick all illegals out.. have you people ever stop to think that most of them have kids born in the USA?... can an American born kid be kicked out of his own country just because ?....One thing I know for sure.... Mexico is not interested in getting any land back that is not the problem.....

The LAND Is Useless
Without The INFRASTRUCTURE That Holds It Together

These Invaders Are NOT After The Land
They Want The
HEALTH, EDUCATION, And WELFARE
Attached To The Land

WE THE PEOPLE
Have Been Building And Defending
That INFRASTRUCTURE
For GENERATIONS

We Will NOT Allow Any ILLEGAL FENCEJUMPERS
To Come Here And EAT OUT Of OUR Pot Of Soup
After ONE DAY
Or One Week
Or One Month
Or Even 10 Years Of ILLEGAL RESIDENCY
Especially After DISGRACING The Flag
That Reperesents That INFRASTRUCTURE

DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS UPON DISCOVERY

Valid comments, however, the United States of America is no longer what was originally envisioned nor what you have been taught. It now appears that the USA is the place where the rich and powerful will tell everyone else what they may wear, think, believe and where they may travel, work and go to school. And in particular, if someone else will do the work for less money then they get the job.

I hate to be rude but I really don't care what the illegals say about land. Not only are they criminals, those that say we owe them land are ignorant. We won that land in the war, and in addition to that we Paid for it, and only kept out a small portion for the US, So their silly rants don't mean diddly. The more crap they start the harder it will be on on them. The are the ones that are getting more Americans by the day mad as hell. They have no rights, so it would behoove them to quiet their butts down and let the wheels of justice roll. Because they are a rolling.

America is greater than simply ownership of the land.

I am not American, but live my life based on American ideals.

Democracy, liberty, obligation, hard work and charity.

the greatest American export are these ideals and others.

it is difficult to be the biggest and the best and the hope for others, but if not you, then who else?

No one.

Without the US living up to its ideals, there is no hope for anyone, because there is not one country in the world that has the morality to do what you do.

Even with all your flaws real or imagined, you are the greatest civilization of this age and arguably any other.

Don't squander your opportunity, no destiny, on pettiness.

Now, this is the Warriorbabe, I like to appreciate; the philosopher one that gets people on this forum thinking. Your depth of understanding what should motivate the human element called Americans impresses me. This time I see the tremendous smoke signal in the horizon again. Thank you, Miss Spiritual Warrior.
