It is unfortunate that we Southerners must still deal with these stereotypes. You will be fine. Across the country and in the South, interracial couples are probably more accepted in larger metropolitan areas. As for visiting Memphis; Memphis is a predominantly black city. As a white male with a black woman, you are morely likely to be harassed in Memphis than vice versa. The same is true in Atlanta, which is predominantly black.
All in all, you have no fears outside of the usual concerns everyone has when they travel.

OK! Here we go again. The stereotyping of the south. I live in Ga. and there are many interracial couples here. No one attacks them or bothers them. My niece is white and was married to a black man, her parents didn't like it, but they accepted it(and by the way, the reason they didn't like him was because he was on drugs). They had a beautiful little girl who is adored by the entire family. My nephew has been dating a black girl since he was in middle school. He is now 21 and they pretty much live together, with plans to be married soon. Neither family has a problem with it. Back in the 50's, most southern people did have a problem with races mixing. But I have heard that people in the northern states were as bad or worse than southerners. With Fort Benning here, we see a lot of mixed couples of all races and colors. We live in the world as it is today, not as it was 50-60 years ago. Really, for the most part, people just don't care who another person is with. I know I don't! And I am about as southern as you can get!

this isnt about this question. since there is no other way of contacting you I am asking you a question here. You answered a question about why is it so easy to follow the World than follow Christ. And in your answer you said something about it is easy for Christians to fall because of the temptations of the World...
Well, how could a Christian fall? Once someone is a Christian, they are forever. Christ saved us all one time, everyone- past present and future. Once someone believes in what Christ has done for him/her then that person is saved. From that point it is harder to follow the World because of the consequences of guilt. At this point in my life, I am very young, I dont believe that a true believer can "backslide." At least, I hope so. I believe that once a true believer, always a follower. I dont think I could backslide
Sry if this is wasting your time. It's just been bothering me. I had to say something.
Oh and I am from New Orleans, LA. People still give others a hard time about mixed couples, but I think more couples like you should not be afraid. My mom dated a black guy about a year ago and that is the reason they split. It makes me sad b/c he was an awesome person who treated her better than anyone. I dont know if it would be diff in Tn.
..jeeze I wrote a lot

you are going to find people who don't approve of your interracial marriage no matter where you go, I grew up in western north carolina, a little "hick" town just over the tennessee border, I'm sure there are still people there who are very prejudice but for the most part I don't think you would have a problem !! things have changed dramatically since the 60's and 70's, thank God, huh? I would encourage you to go on your vacation and have fun... and if you should happen to encounter some of those narrow minded people just go on your way and know that it is them who have the problem...

Interracial marriages may be accepted in alot of other places; but down in "the South" ; it's still and probably always will be--UNACCEPTABLE. Why would you want to subject your wife to all that-that would entail ?
If she is uneasy about going; drop the subject, and go somewhere where you will be welcomed. The Deep South isn't it.

My cousin is married to a black man. We took a trip to Florida and traveled through many of the southern states. We had a
wonderful time. No one was ever at any time rude or impolite to
us. The whole world is so connected now and things have changed for the better. I hope you will go and have a wonderful
time.

I have recently moved to the south, and yes it is racist here. But I have numerous friends that are in a mixed marriage/or relationship. It is more common then I had guessed it would be. I believe you two would be just fine. During tourist season, it is a hodge podge of couples. Come visit Hot Springs Arkansas, its beautiful and you will not be hassled.

from what i understand it is somewhat like how it was portrayed. keep in mind, it IS the south. time seems to stand still there for some reason. bigger cities probably won't have a problem but if you head out towards the sticks and smaller cities then you should be prepared to handle some comments and such
