I would like to know if you feel any type of pain after surgery, and if you did, was it unbearable? or could you still go to the store or perform your daily activities after surgery?

i got mine out last month...all four at the same time and oh man. i was in SO much pain. not so much the day of surgery because i was so hopped up on painkillers i couldnt feel a thing. its going to hurt pretty bad for at least a week, mine lasted two and a half though and i went through three bottles of pain killers. sometimes it wasnt so bad but other times i would just cry and want to throwup it hurt so bad. make sure whatever you do DONT drink through a straw. the suction can cause the dried blood to come out and youll get dry sockets and that would be the ultimate pain. make sure you take your pain medication every 3 to 4 hours and wake up in the middle of the night to take it as well so you dont wake up in pain in the morning. for the first day or two i would use ice packs as well, and anytime after that if your face starts swelling. dont try to eat any solid foods either, until youre positive youre ready. i was able to go out and do things though, like shop and hang out with friends, i just wouldnt drive anywhere because the vicodin made me a little strange.

the pain after oral surgery is pretty bad - enough that your doc will prescribed painkillers for those first few days...if you use these (narcotic) painkillers, it's not really safe to drive, etc...so it's a good idea to have someone available to help you out if you need items from the store or have errands that need to be run. You won't feel much like being up and around those first couple of days anyhow. I wouldn't say it's unbearable, but it all depends on the surgery itself - if you have impacted wisdom teeth that are hard to remove, you'll have more swelling and more pain than if the teeth come out without resistance. I ended up with pretty severe swelling for 2 weeks and was unable to open my mouth very far...it's a good idea to have jello, pudding, soup and soft foods on hand as eating anything else can be difficult.

I've never heard of a surgery that didn't create some kind of pain.
Yes, getting your wisdom teeth taken out is going to hurt. Everyone has a tolerance level. My experience with removal of my wisdom teeth was PAIN. I had impacted teeth and TMJ. So my surgery took longer than most.
But I can tell you from experience after 8 surgeries- STAY AWAY from narcotic pain relievers (Codeine,Oxycontin, tylox, etc). They block your body's natural pain relievers. You WILL heal faster. If you have to take anything, use moderation.
Ask your doctor/dentist about your return to normal activities after the surgery.

I had one wisdom tooth taken out. It wasn't a big surgery. I was able to function fine. There was pain but over the counter pain medication ( I took Advil) was enough to stop the pain. Eating was a big challenging, of course. The wound healed in about 5 days.

I was very healthy when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. the pain was not bothersome at all to me. things like a little pain didn't really bother me then. Now I'm much older and I suffer headaches and heartburn all the time. If I were to get wisdom teeth pulled out today, I would probably wine and take a day off of work.

I had all four out the same time in my 20s and was told my face would become a balloon and I know I have a high pain tolarence but we're talking teeth, or lack of them here and I expected some BS but really, I had very little discomfort, with painkillers. Nothing changed other than the fact I was 4 teeth down, and good riddence to them, they came before their time and went before their time but they had been giving me throat infections for over a year, resulted in the loss of my tonsils too and a biopsy.........all because of my teeth. My father lost all his in his early twenties due to bone disease, and so far, I still got all my others :D:D:D

yes u will feel pain, but only what can be controlled by painkillers. Make sure to follow postop instructions carefully, like not smoking, not rinsing vigorously etc etc...
You will need to take the rest of the off maybe. If you are only having a local anaesthetic, then u can go to the shops of u want. But dont do anything that will bring ur blood pressure up- so dont rush around.
Good luck!

I had them out a loooong time ago. The surgery itself was fine. I had it done at the oral surgeon's office. No bruising or swelling, & really, not all that painful. My problem was that it turned out I was allergic to the anesthetic. So if I hadn't ended up in the hospital with a severe allergic reaction, I probably would have been able to work the next day.

Mine were taken out almost 20 yrs ago. I had a sore jaw for awhile and wasnt allowed solid food for 24 hrs or so. I know I was out of work for a couple days at least (my boss's choice not mine). I remember mine had gone sour though so I was on antibiotics and pain killers for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after. They may do things differently now..you'll need to ask. Mine was a worse case situation though and I had to go to an oral surgeon. Some dentists can just do it right in-house though. You'll need to discuss this with your dentist.

I had two out a couple of years ago. I was on Vicodin, so I slept almost all of the first day of my extraction. It hurt a little, but wasn't unbearable. The worst part was that the dentist didn't put me out and one of mine was impacted. I heard the crunching of bone and teeth inside my head, and oh god it was gross! I think the part that hurt the worst, even on healing, was the place in the upper part of my mouth where the dentist numbed it with novacaine. That hurt, but otherwise I was good. I was about my business in a day or two.
