At what age do you believe a child is too old to be riding in a stroller? Although I understand in certain situations it's a blessing,i.e. the airport, the zoo,if you want to jog but have no one to babysit.
But I have seen parents of children use a stroller to walk a block and half to the park when their children are notably older than three. My three year old refuses to ride in a stroller, and although sometimes it wears us both out, I'm glad he gets the exercise, chance to explore, and just gain a little independence in general. What are your thoughts on toddlers/pre-schoolers ( and in some cases 5 and up!) in strollers?

Cristalle T :I'm not worried per se at what other parents do...I'm merely interested in opinon/reasons behind why people choose to parent the way the do.

I agree with you 100% There is a HUGE obesity epidemic in our country and I am afraid we parents are putting our children at risk! Once my kids started walking independently I stopped using the stroller on short walks and/or shopping trips. I knew this one girl who was 4 years old and STILL in a stroller, quite the chunk too! A child must learn to ENJOY walking and exploring! What fun is there in riding in a stroller every time you go out? If your child has the tendency to wander, get a cute little halter, they have stuffed animal backpack ones now. My kids are very active now and love to get out and go. (I still use a stroller with my youngest one when on long trips though)

My kids were always closer to the age of 3 1/2 - 4 when they were too old to use a stroller. At this age, they want to be more like "big kids" and walk anyways. Anything beyond this, is just showing a child how to be lazy.
Also, it would depend on the size of the child. If you put your kid in the stroller, and it tilts like it's going to fall over on one side, time to get your kid a walkin'
I love the fact that my 4 yr old walks with his siblings. It's a lot easier than toting that stroller around. Now we use the space in the van for more fun things, like fishing poles & tackle boxes.

I think that every situation is different....you see a child riding in a stroller, that is 5-6 ...how do you know that there isn't something mentally wrong with the child...you sometime cant tell my just looking at the child!! It is up to the parents to set an age for their child to ride or to walk!!

There are some good replies to your question, but in my case I have a six year old almost seven yr old child. She is a beautiful looking lil girl with the worst heart condition imaginable. I push her in a baby stroller and unthoughtful passbyer's say I should make her walk.Well...nine-ten seconds flat of walking, she is winded,if I choose to look so proper with a small child in a wheelchair. You do what is comfortable for you and the child.

Probably 5, but I'm lazy.... However my 2 year old daughter hardly ever uses her stroller, when we're going on a long shopping trip to the mall, an amusement park, etc.

kids will get to an age where they don't want to be seen in a stroller. I asked a friend of mine the same question, but it was about baby swings, and she told me ...about the time their head is too big and it starts falling out the back! It was funny.

Stroller use, like thumbsucking and potty training, depend to a very great extent on the child involved. They tend to set their own schedules. Trust me, they handle all that and more, when they are ready. If that isn't by high school, then worry.

I think it really depends on the parent. I don't think my two boys rode in one past the age of two. They were just too active and needed to run. I have a friend though that I think would still put her 6 yr old in one if she would fit. not trying to sound ugly, but I think there are some who just can't keep up with their kids for whatever reason or don't want to have to try to.
