Most would say that the wheel is the best invention of all times. But i believe that Language and Communications is the best ever product made by man. It is the one thing that makes us different from animals. Without language, civilizations would never be built, there would be no unifying society. Without language, information would not be available, and if that did happen, i do think that the industrial revolution would never take place (remember, most of the things we use nowadays came from that age). Imagine life without it...

The color TV. Not the stuff you watch on it. Just the technology involved in inventing it. Quantum physics, Maxwell's equations on electromagnetism, a keen understanding of the properties of light . . . lots of knowledge went into making one of those babies. And what comes out of that? Maury Povich, Jerry Springer, TV Evangelists, and pro wrestling. Ironic, isn't it?

Agriculture. Being able to grow food where you want it led to a lot of the other advances in society -- hunter-gatherers don't do a whole lot of innovation.

On the minus side, Agriculture is also the worst invention of all time. It led to land ownership, taxation, disease, slavery.
