Boxers are great family dogs, they love people. Be prepared for a little slobber, though. They are strong physically and need lots of exercise. Be sure to buy from a reputable breeder and make sure BOTH parents have been fully health tested. This means a 24-hr holter test, an ultrasound of the heart, Thyroid test, and X-rays of the hips and elbows to be sure they are free from hip displasia. Cardiomyopathy and Subaortic Stenosis (SAS) is common in Boxers, and way too many people don't test before breeding. I've seen someone pay 1200.00 for a pet store Boxer puppy only to have to send it back less than a month later due to health issues. The people got their money back, but the puppy they already fell in love with was put to sleep. A qualified breeder would charge less than that unless the dog was show quality, in which case they would have sold it to a show home, not a pet home. Go to www.infodog.com and look up dog shows in you area. Visit one and talk to the people there about breeds you are interested in. You are looking at a 10+ year commitment, so research it extensively and make sure it's the right dog for you.

They are very good dogs! They are good with kids and other animals too. The only problem I know of with them is a propensity for hip displaysia in some dogs but if the parents of the boxer never had a problem it is unlikely the offspring will.

They are usually very good dogs. However some can be extremely hyper and they can be very stubborn. I think sometimes too smart for their own good. I love my boxer to death but she is just awful as far as behavior. I actually took her to two different trainers when she was a puppy and they both said they couldn't do anything with her! She was very hyper and and very smart. She would just ignore them or just wait them out when they tried to do a "settle" command, then spaz out as soon as they let go of her. I tried to follow through with that for months but it never fazed her. She learned "tricks" very quickly but ignored "stay" or "come". She was also VERY demanding of attention. She is almost 7 years old now and a sweetheart. Once she turned 5 she calmed down a lot and is very obedient now, although still a little hyper compared to other dogs. As long as she gets plenty of exercise she is pretty good. Generally though, they are very good dogs and the one we had when I was growing up was just wonderful and extremely well behaved with very little effort on our part.

My sister has a boxer. He is a great dog, and gets along with everyone and so far everything he has come across. My sister also has a baby and a cat, and their are no problems. He hardly ever barks, but slobbers A LOT!! He is also very strong, all muscle.

They are a nice breed. They can be pretty head strong so just make sure you have lots of time available to train the puppy the proper way.
Make sure you also buy from a good breeder, one that guarantees the health of the puppy and has the parents hips and elbow tested clear of hip displaysia.

Boxers are highly intelligent and the ones I raised were very friendly. The only "bad" thing I dealt with was that they're roamers. Whenever I put them in the kennel, they would find a way out (over, under, climbing, etc.).

Boxers are great dogs to have. Mine play with the kids, protect the house and are very loving dogs. They get along great with other dogs as well... You should get one...

They are great dogs, if you are able to get one as a puppy, and train them your self.
