MAny people find religion to be a safe haven. A place to gather their thoughts and pray to their god.

I however think that following a religion like blind sheep being led to the slaughter.

I pushed any religious forms out of my life, and I've never been happier! I used to be a Catholic.

Religion is a really hard thing to explain. It's like love, you might not be able to see it, but you feel it and you know it's there. Some people grow up without religion and they turn out just fine because even though they didn't go to church, they grew up with good morals and values, they knew right from wrong. It doesn't matter which denomination they decide to choose, the fact that they choose one is what matters, but even if they don't choose, as long as they know right from wrong, they should be fine. It seems that everyone wants something to believe in, whether they choose to say so or not. I choose to believe in God, but i don't judge those who do not. Not saying your judging, your merely asking a question that's asked all the time. I guess the bottom line is that no matter where you go or what you believe in, you can still choose the wrong path, despite your religion, so the fact that those children grew up ok, tells me that the parents instill good values in them.

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24)

I wouldn't join a religion. Joining a religion makes no difference in whether you get to heaven or not. Accepting Jesus Christ as your savior, confessing with your mouth that he rose from the dead, and that you are led by the Holy Spirit---now, that will get you into heaven----and, it will make you a Child of God, give you a more wonderfully blessed life, and you will have a place in the Kingdom of Heaven.

You're absolutely right about the "religion thing." But Christianity is not a religion. Catholocism---that's not only "just" a religion, but also a corporate whoremonger. So, you were right not to join.

You should be a Catholic or any type of theist because everyone else is doing it or if in times of crisis you need easy comfort and validation from outside yourself. It simply and effortlessly allows you to think or feel you know the answers to the absolute mysteries of our existence.
However, you don't need a religion/faith to be moral, spiritual, have a purpose filled life, or have a healthy appreciation of the mystical. It just takes inner strength and conscious effort.
- I wish you happiness

Joining a religious cult gives people an excuse to not have to think critically about their own lives and how they affect others. If even half of these lazy, stupid people would put down their superstitions and gods the world would be a much safer place.

You see it's not that I am saying that that there is no God or whatever but just like everything else it's just you BELIEVE in there is no fact regarding it at all. I personally don't think that you have to grow up religiously in order for you to be better then me. My parents have thought me one thing...as long as you follow the first ten commandments you are a god person...and that's the only thing I believe in!

Is there a gun to their heads to join a religion? If they are happy with themselves and good people, stay away from religion. It will just ruin them.

This is negligence. If you don't care about you child's soul or your own eternal future a person has the right to be lost without hope, but if you want eternal life to be able to live forever you must accept Jesus, believe on Him, confess your sins and be called according to His purpose.
