Whose discoveries you can utilize better, and finally who is the greatest?

I purposely posed this question, because I think that there are some common points between these two scientists.

Tesla was primarily a practical physicist - inventor. However, in some way Tesla was also a theoretical physicist (free energy for everyone, and so one…) and there are a lot of his ideas that we will not be able to verify for at least 50 or 100 years more. Nevertheless, there are indications that a greater part of those ideas are achievable!

On the other hand, Einstein was only theoretical physicist and his ideas were brilliant. But, you must ask yourself about that… some of the greatest minds of nowadays can’t understand some of Einstein’s theories. Why? There are only two answers (by mine opinion)… or that theories are really far, far ahead of our time… or they are wrong!

Try reading the book "Man Out Of Time" by Margaret Cheney. It's a biography of Tesla. You'd be amazed at what he accomplished. The true inventor of radio (or at least it's precursor and proving it was possible), as well as of other remarkable firsts such as the harnessing of alternating current, remotely guided weapons, fluorescent lighting, and the bladeless turbine. Not to mention the coil that bears his name (Tesla coil).

As far as practical application for everyday use, I'd go with Tesla.

For Theoretical, it would have to be Einstein - the man was just incredibly adept at thinking through problems.

In the long run, Tesla will be known by only a few people. Einstein will be at least as long lasting as Newton , if not longer.

Tesla was by far more useful. He was an electrical engineer and an inventor. What did Einstein do besides theorize? And what practical use have any of Einstein's theories had for mankind? I would say none. However, you cannot really compare the two because Einstein was a theoretical physicist.

Einstein as well as Tesla.
e=mc^2 from Einstein.

1 T = 1 Wb·m−2 = 1 kg·s−2·A−1= 1N·A−1·m−1 = 1 kg·s−1·C−1
The tesla is the value of the total magnetic flux (a magnet's "power") divided by area. Hence, reducing the affected area will generally increase the magnetic flux density.

This will continue to occur until the material becomes magnetically saturated and/or the magnetic field "leakage" increases so fast that no additional tesla gains are possible.

Einstein because he's famous. I actually never heard of Tesla until a few weeks ago. Apparently Tesla was overshadowed by Edison. I was reading a good book about search engines "The Search" by John Batelle. Apparently Larry Page (co-founder of Google) didn't want to end up like Tesla...with lots of great inventions and not much to show for it. Looks like things worked out ok for Larry. Some really good answers here, and some excellent points. I agree that between the two, Tesla is more useful for all mankind. We use the products of his intelligence every day. Einstein's Theory of Relativity, however, I use only maybe three times a month? ;)

Personally, as far as usefulness to mankind, I'd put great thinkers like Edison and da Vinci above both of them.

Tough call.

Tesla was probably the more intelligent of the two, and his inventions and discoveries are arguably more relevant to everyday living.

but Einstein's work looked at the big picture and even reconciled the existence of Deity within the scientific paradigm.

Tesla also invented the "Death Ray", and became the template for mad scientists both real and in film.

Say "Einstein" to almost anyone and they think of a man who was peaceful and brilliant.

If I could be Tesla or Einstein, I would be Einstein. He died having friends and happiness.

Tesla just died.

the world had a few civilizations that were as brilliant as the one we are in right now.The difference is electricity.we are fortunate to have had discovered electricity, it has given us sustenance and power far beyond what any of the earlier generations experienced.what Tesla and others who worked on electricity has given us is the means of breaking away from manual and animal energy - what Einstein and Bohr gave us was a transformation to the micro world which has created the present world as we see it - to compare will be futile, fatal, and childish what Einstein did with general Theory might not have been done even today if he had not come along

They are both great scientists, but I would choose Tesla. He was such a great mind, in every sense. And he was also a wonderful person. I absolutely adore him. He was a great man who dedicated his life to science and without him our lives would be much more primitive. What I like most about him, besides his soul, is the fact that he kept all his discoveries in his head. He would do an experiment, only when he realizes that it works in his head. Imagine a person who has so many great discoveries in his head (more than a 1000). The fact is that Tesla's thoughts were much ahead of his time, and much ahead of our time now. Tesla is the greatest!

Albert Einstein! He discovered e=mc^2! Tesla? I dont know about that person, but i think Einstein is more famous and useful.

Without Tesla, we would likely have no power grid.

Without Einstein, we would likely have no Space Program, and our children would be less interested in science, so technology would have stumbled a few years back.

They were equally essential for us to get from where we were to where we are!
