I'll turn 40 this year, and have never been married. Close several times, but then . . . one woman cheated on me, another developed a drug habit, another became verbally and physically abusive.

I've done my best to be a healthy, confident, dateable man . . . but when people treat me like some kind of loser because I don't have a ring on my hand yet, it dredges up all those bad memories, and I become defensive about being single. Some even think that I'm gay because I've never been married, which certainly isn't true.

I really think I am a good catch, but have just had some really lousy luck. What would be the best way for me to respond to people who are insensitive and immature to me about the marriage subject? It wouldn't do any good to give a 3-hour story about all of the women who've wronged me.

Tell thm that you are free spirited!! and that they should think of it this way!! you don't have to deal with the stress in your life yet!! most of those people are jealous because you are still available to mingle as to where they are lock down!! Tell them that when you can find that one woman who's not insaine, abusive, and loose you'll settle down! Oh!! I know tell them that you just have very high standards that you expect each and every one to be met and fulfilled because you refuse to settle for just being satisfied with the person you plan on spending the rest of your life with!!

You're not obligated to explain to anyone why you are not married; if someone says something that is offensive to you, feel free to walk away.

Are you looking for smart-alec answers? How about saying... "I wanted to marry out of my family tree." or "Why buy the cow when the milk is free."
