The best way to keep it in good condition is rinsing it out with fresh water after each time you use it. This keeps the sand off it and the salt water from drying it out. That's really simple but it will extent the life of your wetsuit a lot.

If you can't do it every time though, let's say you go to work right after surfing and the wet wetsuit is baking in your hot car all day, it might smell. There's a product called "Sink the Stink." You just soak your wetsuit in a tub of water with the sink the stink in it and that cures it of the smell.

As for the washing machine... you might want to avoid this. It's unnecessary and puts a lot of stress on the wetsuit material. Won't last as long.

You don't need to wash it, just be consistent with rinsing it out and letting it air dry. Use a wetsuit product such as Sink The Stink if it starts to smell.

Best thing I have ever found is simply to hose it down or rinse it in the tub. I would not risk the washing machine.

Rinsing it in the shower also works, also gives a convenient place to hang it. About the ONLY machine washing you might want to do is to use the gentle cycle on a FRONT LOADER with no soap, maybe once or twice a year.
