The state should not be involved in marriage. Marriage is a religious sacrament and as such should only be associated with a religion. Each religion should make up it's own mind who can be married in that faith. Some marry gays and lesbians; others don't. That's their right.
All federal and state laws need to be amended and the term marriage replaced by civil union, which is what it means in those laws - a mutual, binding legal contract. Any couple, gay or straight, must have the right to that union, since we treat all our citizens equally.
The same rights and responsibilities under law must be afforded to and demanded from all citizens entering into a civil union.
Let religion keep the term marriage - and let's concentrate the political discussion where it belongs - on the equal treatment of all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation.

I think everyone can have their own opinion on the subject but it seems when a non gay person tries to express their beliefs the whole gay world gets pissy..like everyone is suppose to have their beliefs. I mean if someone would love their dog so much that they would want to spend the rest of their lives with it, does that mean they would be able to marry their dog. Ok..say everyone wanted to be gay and have a gay marriage..what then would happen to the human race. IT would die off. I believe marriage was created for man and women..all the gays in the world could get married..let them..with my beliefs..I would never see that as a marriage but they would.

Why is everyone spazing out about gay marriage? I think the law should provide for a civil union of gay couples, for tax, medical, as well as inheritance laws, etc. If the church doesn't want to take part in the ceremony OK, that's their choice, but because 2 men or 2 women decide they love each other and want to commit their lives to each other doesn't effect my marriage or my life! People just need to get over themselves, not too terribly long ago black people couldn't dink from the same water fountains as white people and now it's no big deal, (generally because for the most part people are too grossed out to actually drink from a water fountain) but you get the point. Let's really stir the pot and discuss gay adoption and watch people really freak out, as for me I'm all for it, better than an orphanage or on the street.

Homosexuals are human just like anyone else. Why should they be treated any different just because of sexual orientation?
If we are going to ban gay marriages, than we should start putting "coloreds" at the back of the bus again, and start having segregated "white" and "color" drinking fountains and bathrooms.
I thought we already learned, the hard way, that treating people differently is not a good thing. You'd think we'd finally get the hint.

Originally marriage was a contract between the bridegroom and the father of the bride. The bride didn't even have much say.
Jesus Christ elevated the status of marriage from contract to Sacrament, the union of two people of opposite sex for the purpose of pro-creation and mutual support.
Why now should 'society' change the definition of 'marriage?' The first commandment of the Lord is: "Be fruitful and multiply..."

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.(The first Amendment)Basically can't take away or support religions.
The only reason i believe gays can't get married is because people religion say that it is wrong. But the president shouldn't go by religion or that would be violating our amendments. The decision should be decided on votes, not religion.I don't approve but i don't have anything against gay marriage. This is America if its something that make them happy and doesn't hurt or harm others (its OK).

Yes, it will happen regardless of anti-gay US puppet presidents.
Gay marriage because we want our long term committed relationships recognised by the law, we want to protect our loved ones so our partners don't lose their home if we die, so that our partners can benefit from our pensions if we should die, so that we can have visiting rights to see our partners in hospital and have next of kin status when medical decisions must be made, so that we can attend our loved ones funerals without harrassment from homophobic relatives. Because our love is as valid as any heterosexuals love and this is perhaps the most important point...it is a love committment and we are worth it.

"Gay marriage" is an oxymoron. It's a contradiction of terms.
It's like saying a blue orange, if it's an orange, it's not blue, if it's blue, it's not an orange.
If it's marriage, it's a man and a woman, if it's gay, it's outside the definition of marriage.
And what's with the term "gay". They're generally not happy, all that's ever on their mind is sexual gratification, and they're usually angry all the time.

I would very much like my marriage to be a gay and happy affair. I don't think anybody'd much dig a depressing wedding, much less a depressing marriage. I think all marriages should be gay.
