I have three cats. When they slip up - even though they know they are under penalty of being ignored - vinegar on the spot always works.

Urine Gone is fine, but the use of baking soda tooth brushed in with water works... let dry, then vacuum.
Also, make sure that your litter box is "cleaned" from "droppings" every other day... any do a total change over at the end of each week or at least every 10 days, if the cat is totally house bound... it would be better for you & the cat, if the cat were not!

Go to your local Walmart, in the rug shampoo section; get a bottle of Kids N Pets...it not only takes out the odor but has an enzyme in it that keeps pets from returning to the scene of the crime. It's a fairly good sized yellow bottle, and the product can even be used on laundry should your kitty decide to pee on any of your clothing.

I have used ammonia on the carpet and that usually works, and the kitty won't usually go back to that spot to urinate again.
Also, please make sure you keep the litter box clean. If you have more than 2 cats, I would get a litter box for each cat, that in itself could solve your problem.
Sincerely,
Becky W.

There is a product called Simple Solution (from PetSmart, Petco, etc.) that has worked quite well for us. Really saturate the spot. In bad cases we have used in conjunction with the hand-held steamer-vac from Sharper Image. Saturate the spot, let soak for a while, vacuum the solution out, let dry, steam. Repeat as necessary.
