Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit)
the third Person of the Trinity
His personality is proved…
…from the fact that the attributes of personality, as intelligence and volition, are ascribed to him (John 14:17, 26; 15:26; 1 Cor. 2:10-11; 12:11). He reproves, helps, glorifies, intercedes (John 16:7-13; Rom. 8:26).
He executes the offices peculiar only to a person. The very nature of these offices involves personal distinction (Luke 12:12; Acts 5:32; 15:28; 16:6; 28:25; 1 Cor. 2:13; Hebrews 2:4; 3:7; 2 Pet. 1:21).
His divinity is established...
...from the fact that the names of God are ascribed to him (Ex. 17:7; Ps. 95:7; compare Hebrews 3:7-11)
...and that divine attributes are also ascribed to him, omnipresence (Ps. 139:7; Eph. 2:17-18; 1 Cor. 12:13); omniscience (1 Cor. 2:10-11); omnipotence (Luke 1:35; Rom. 8:11); eternity (Hebrews 9:4).
Creation is ascribed to him (Gen. 1:2; Job 26:13; Ps. 104:30), and the working of miracles (Matt. 12:28; 1 Cor. 12:9-11).
Worship is required and ascribed to him (Isa. 6:3; Acts 28:25; Rom. 9:1; Rev. 1:4; Matt. 28:19).

The Holy Spirit is the third person of The Trinity. God, The Father, is the infinite aspect of God, existing outside of time and space. All seeing, all knowing and all powerful. The Son, Jesus Christ is that aspect of infinite God that can operate in the finite universe. Whenever God appears in The Old Testament, that is, in fact, Jesus. The Holy Spirit is that aspect of God that actually created the Universe and holds it together. The Holy Spirit can inhabit a human being, transforming that person gradually into the likeness of Jesus Christ and giving the same power (gifts or Charismata) that Jesus exhibited.

Bear with me on this one. The bible says, in the beginning was the Word, And the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word was made FLESH. So I am beliving, Jesus, in the flesh was the Son of God but his sould (spirit) Was God. Now when Jesus assended he said he had to leave so He could come back to us. He could not inhabit the hearts of all men that would accept him as Flesh so He came back as the Holy Spirit.
That was part one.
Part 2 is, The Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and she became pregnant with him. So the Holy Spirit and the Father must be one or then he would be the step Father. And we know he is not.
Thats my logic and belief,
Hope that helps

God is one being who exists eternally as three persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and reveals the Son. The Holy Spirit also sanctifies the world, especially Christians, for he dwells in the hearts of all Christians. He is fully God and Lord, just like the Father and the Son are also both fully God and Lord -- yet they are one God, not three gods.

you have a Family based Godhead. a Father and a Son ... but someone is missing. Who is missing from the Family picture?
once you figure out Who the missing family member is you'll have a clue as to Who the "holy spirit" represents. The Hebrews were not always monotheist. Yahweh had a Wife/Consort named Ashera, the Tree of Life. Yahweh divorced Her and Her worship was outlawed when the Hebrew high priesthood decided to create a strict patriarchy. the male god usurped the birthing process and the Goddess became a genderless spirit.

the Holy Spirit proceeds from God the Father and Christ Jesus, the Son. God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is not a what but a who.He is the 3rd person of the Trinity. For Ex.Peter says in Acts "You have not lied to man (speaking of the Holy Spirit)but to God.Jesus said he must return to heaven so He could send "the Comforter"the Holy Spirit to indwellus to help us learn to open our minds to God's teachings. He never speaks of himself but reveals the things of God the father and Jesus to us.

"Servant of God" gave a good answer.
In Catholic, Orhtodox and other (mainstream) Christian Theology, the Holy Spirit is a "who", not a "what".
He is the 3rd Person of the Trinity, the 3rd Person in the 1 God.
It's a mystery which can't be fully understood, that God exists in 3 persons - it is not a theory derived only from Scripture, although that is one aspect, but it arises ultimately from the Church's memory and experience of the man Jesus, risen from the dead and present among us.
The Holy Spirit is the Person of God present in the Church who makes us recognise that Christ is risen, and leads us through Christ to the Father. This happens firstly through the sacraments (the formula you gave in the question comes from the Baptismal rite), but also through the Bible, prayer and the whole life of the Christian community.
Pope Benedict has explained this well in a recent address to the New Movements; since the Incarnation, the Spirit of God is the Spirit of Jesus; He awakens us, reforms our lives and leads us to Christ.

3 totally different entities.
The Father=Jehovah God the Almighty
The son= Jesus Christ, only begotten son of Jehovah
The holy spirit= Jehovah's active force (or the power that he uses to accomplish his will.
Jesus said "the father is greater then I am" This would indicate that a trinity was incorrect as a trinity is 3 seperate parts of a whole that are all EQUAL in every way,
