Yes. Ephesians 4:29
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

It is definitely a sin to swear (curse, cuss, etc.).

The Bible makes this abundantly clear. Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." 1 Peter 3:10 declares, "For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech." James 3:9-12 summarizes the issue, "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."

Why is it a sin to cuss / swear / curse? We should only allow good and positive things to come out of our mouths - things that will encourage other people (Ephesians 4:29). It is not right for praising and cursing to come out of the same mouth (James 3:9-12).

Not just any sin will send you to hell. Only mortal sins can do that.

A mortal sin is a grave infraction of the law of God that destroys the divine life in the soul of the sinner (sanctifying grace), constituting a turn away from God. For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must be present: grave matter, full knowledge of the evil of the act, and full consent of the will.

Most of the sins we commit are venial sins. Venial sin is a sin which does not destroy the divine life in the soul, as does mortal sin, though it diminishes and wounds it. Venial sin is the failure to observe necessary moderation, in lesser matters of the moral law, or in grave matters acting without full knowledge or complete consent.

However consistent unrepentant venial sins can slowly destroy your relationship with God and become mortal sin.

People die all the time with venial sins on their conscience and they do go to heaven.

With love in Christ.

Well some people think so. For me I don't think so. Yes
I am a Christian. I think it all depends on the way your raised on how you fell about it. And another thing not all Churchs are the same.

I think what is sinful, is the intent of your heart when you say something. Therefore, saying darn instead of damn, when you are really upset, to me, is not different. Speaking the Lord's name in anger is definately a sin.
