Are there any proposals for a new, fourth airport to serve New York City?

Long Island MacArthur seems to be getting busier and busier. Southwest Airlines does regular flight service in and out of there. While it is a little east of the Brooklyn/Queens area, it will perhaps serve as a fourth NYC airport just the same way that Newark, NJ forms a third NYC airport.

There's been talk of a fourth airport in the NYC area to act as a "commuter airport" that would handle all "express" flights. Bids were made for Teterboro in NJ and even Westchester County and Newburgh/Stewart but these locations are just too far from NYC. If you do a search you'll see a bunch of articles, but it'll never happen. The proposed locations are too far, and Teterboro has a lot of NIMBYs in the area.

no, new york city has three airports in their areas. I think they always has enough airports because they have enough lands.

I don't think so there is not enough land. I think they would expand one. Newark is pretty close too.
