Mennonite Brethren ladies often wear a head cover (small) that could be mistaken for a Jewish head gear.
I have never in my life seen a female Jewish person wearing one.
I do believe that is only worn by the men in the Jewish society.

She probably was an idiot that found a yamaka somewhere. Was she a homeless person you just stopped on the street? Did she think you were kidding or did she take you serious? Are you sure it was a woman?
