No its not...and if they chew it, it wont hurt it either....why because it is a natural herbal plant....which is in the mint family....cats love the smell...but chea tha cat nip is a mild hallucinogen.
How Does Catnip Affect Cats?
Many cats, not just domestic, respond to catnip including wild cats like cougars, bobcats, lions, and lynx.
Catnip has an active ingredient named Nepetalactone that affects a a cat's olfactory system as a mild hallucinogen. Located at the back of a cat's nose is the vomeronasal orgon (also known as Jacobson's organ) which almost allows cats to taste smells and smell tastes. When the aromatic oils with Nepetalactone are inhaled into the vomeronasal orgon some cats respond dramatically. (http://www.furlongspetsupply.com/catnip.htm)
So no cats are not harmed by it......

Catnip is in no way harmful to your cat. Catnip to cats is kinda like pot to people only it doesn't kill their brain cells. It gives them a "high" effect. Just watch them, it's kind of funny. They start purring and rolling around in it. And if they eat it, it won't hurt them.

"kitty pot" is not dangerous or bad for your cat. It actually helps their digestion along with a good buzz! Also if you eat tuna from a can, drain the water into a bowl and share with your babies as a treat and its also very good for their skin and coat. One really bad thing for cats is cows milk!
