Never too early..... Right now....you would be very smart in looking into a 529 plan ... where you prepay in monthly payments your childs college tuition and fees. Unfortunately, books, food and housing are not usually covered by this plan.
Many plans lock in the cost of the tuition rate today, instead of 8-10yrs down the road. You would be purchasing 4yrs of college tuition and fees at todays rate.....and completely paying for it in advance by making monthly payments. Keep in mind...college tuition rises about 9% every year. So if you can completely pay for tuition at todays rate before he/she starts college...you would have saved roughly half the price of tuition that would be in effect 9yrs from now. COLLEGE ILLINOIS is one such plan....and I have included there website for you. Perhaps you can find one that would be applicable where you live.
