That's why because it's a PANcake so it is cooked in a pan. I call mine griddlecakes because I cook mine on a griddle.

Pancakes got its name because the batter is smooth and can fit easily into the bottom of a skillet or frying "pan". It's runny and when the heat is high enough, will 'hold' its shape until you are ready to turn. (you can purchase shapes to place in the pan and then pour in the liquid). Cake pans on the other hand - are deeper and require much more batter so that the batter will 'rise' to the top of the cake's "pan".

Yes they do, but they renamed the cake called pancakes
