Buy a cool night light

If they are under the age of 14. Get a night light. Big deal. Kids are afraid of the dark. If they are older than that, talk about it and STILL let them have the night light. I'm 47 and I have night lights in the hallways of our home. You know the plug in kind. Being afraid of the dark is normal for some. Think about all the horror movies there are out there, or just the news itself, rapes, murders, burglers. It's enough to make us all want flashlights under our pillows. And maybe a baseball bat too :)

Well...in order to overcome a fear, it must be confronted. Let that person know that there is nothing in the dark that is going to hurt them. Yeah things take on a different shapes in the dark and your imagination runs wild, but there is nothing that is going to hurt them. They need to learn to confront that fear. Even if you have to stand in the dark room with them.

Find out why they are afraid of the dark. Before they go to sleep at night, have them look around their room and see that there is absolutely nothing in that room that is going to hurt them.

Oh yeah, don't let them watch horror movies or read scary books. That just adds to the fear.

Leave a small light on always, allover, with battery back up, auto on when dark-turns off if there is enough light. You can buy one with motion detector feature also.

Without battery back up $ 2.00 per piece, in six pack. I use it all the time I must have saved a bundle, by not using large wattage light when I can get by with night light only.

At dollar store without auto-on (switchable) feature you guess it ! $1.00.

Hope this would help.

Just explain to them, it is not the dark that will get you, its whats in the dark that you have to worry about.
