It is actually very simple once you understand the industry.
The meat packing industry measures everything in pounds. Your standard-issue hot dog, comes ten to the pound.
The bakery industry measures everything by the dozen.
A single batch of buns is one dozen.
Simple. Not convenient but simple.

i don't know where you shop.but i live in winnipeg and i have never seen a ten pack of weiners, unless you are buying them from a deli counter.it has been my experience that weiners come in twelve packs and so do buns but sometimes "Wonder"(an american company) makes eight packs of buns
