depends on the child and where you live, how busy the street is, how responsible the child is. Personally, I cannot imagine allowing my kids to walk anywhere alone until they are in middle school, at least.

Well in my case the school is about 1 mile away and I don't trust my son walking that far alone. I think maybe 10 and above if school is less than 1/2 mile away and 13-or so if further. I used to walk 2 miles but i didn't do it until I was in 9 th grade. There are so many crazies out there now a days that a child neds to be old enough to understand to not ever get into a car with anyone except your parents and also old enough to really put up a fight if someone grabs them so until a child can do that the best thing is the bus or take them to school.

With all the pedophiles, rapists, kidnappers, etc. in the world today, I really don't think there is a certain age to let your child walk to school alone. You know now-a-days it's not really safe for adults to walk the streets alone. It's not all about being in a good neighborhood either. Criminals can drive or walk into a so-called "safe" neighborhood and commit a crime.I was walking to school when i was 11 yrs old but I had about 6 other kids walking with me. If your child has to walk to school, I would make sure he/she is with a group of kids. You never can be too careful these days!

That is a very relative question. And, there are many factors to be considered like- how far is the school from your home? how is the neighborhood like? Is it a safe place where you can just walk all by yourself?...And, would you ever take the risk to let your son/daughter walk by himself/herself alone?...
It'll be best that kids these days must be accompanied by an adult (their own parents) to the bus stop or to the school. Until such time that your kids are mature enough to know that they shouldn't talk to strangers or just go ride with people in their cars besides their parents. Also, it's very important to walk along with a buddy. Well, the age really depends but in my case I guess I wouldn't let my kids walk to and from school till they are 12.

Too many factors to answer that.
How close is school? Is your child responsible? Is it a safe neighborhood? Do you have a boy or a girl? Small town, big city?
My daughter is almost 11 and responsible enough to walk home by herself. I just don't trust the people out there in this world. A guy tried to grab a young girl from the bus stop a few months back, just a block away from my house.
Just trusting your child is no longer enough.

I need a lil more info...but that all depends on the area you live in and how safe it is....how far the school is..traffic conditions...would they be walking alone or with other children....also how responsible is the child....will they walk to school or be distracted by something along the way....

i don't know if this helps, but i rode my bike to school with one other girl when i was in 7th grade (i probably could have in 6th grade) the school was maybe 2 or 3 miles away...
there are a lot of factors, but assuming your child is fairly responsible and you don't live too far away, i'd say 11 is old enough (maybe 12 if they are walking alone)

Okay, I'm kidding... sort of. But this is a very dangerous world. Sure, kids may be old enough to go by themselves, but it might be a good idea to at least set up some sort of a buddy-system where an adult in the neighborhood (that you know well) can walk the neighborhood kids to school, and take turns.

well, that question comes with a whole lot of variables; each child has his/her own perso-nality and therefore his/her own level of respon-sibility.
.two kids of the same age will handle the same situation differently...one is ready to walk alone & the other is not.
what type of area do you live in?
is there alot of crime?
is it out in the boondocks where the oppor-tunity might present itself to an eager perpetator, or is it a close knit commu-nity where everybody knows everybody, and will keep an eye out to help protect eachothers kids?
also... how far is it to school? is there any chance your child could become part of a local group of kids who are going the same way to school?

Depends on how far the school is and if he/she will be with a friend?
I would wait till he or she was 8 or 9 years old and they were going with friends.
