Three of my children attended Head Start. I think it has gotten a lot better. I also work for Head Start I currently have an AAS in Early Childhood and just when I thought that was enough here comes the talk of a BA. I'm all for it if it means a raise.

Head Start teachers have never had to have a Bachelors Degree.
My degree is in Early Childhood Education. I would like to see all public school systems incorporate Pre-Kindergarten as part of their systems. Since Kindergarten is the new first grade, kids need Pre-K to get their Emergent Literacy skills up to par before Kinder.

My child was never in the Head Start program however, as a teacher and a parent, I would encourage anyone who wants to provide education to students at any age to get a degree and beyond. We need qualified teachers who are not only 'educated' but who are dedicated and willing to do things differently to reach our kids. Pre-K is the new first grade as the previous writer stated - much needs to be done in this area to increase educational opportunities - reading, math for our kids.
