Because everyone has a tendency to think that everyone else should think just like them. They are not happy with live and let live because that means accepting something different than their standards.

You are taking individual choices and making them equal with a group choice made to take away options from the individual. Feminism is about giving women the rigth to do what they choose. If they choose to be submissive, wear hijab, practice tzinus, or whatever, that is their right. If the "catholics as a whole" felt that women should not be priests, there would be no need for a ban. The catholic women would not wish to be priests.

There is a huge difference between giving someone a choice and making a choice for them. I would not tell a woman she had to be a priest or not submit or not wear hijab anymore. I would not tell a woman what religion to practice, and I wouldn't to a man, either. However, when women in those religions--or in parts of the world ruled by those religions--wish to have a choice, I believe their rights should be respected. At the moment, some of the things you mention are really not choices at all.

Lets be realistic, most women don't chose to be submissive... they don't have a choice.
And not all Catholics don't want women priests; they don't have a choice because the church has never allowed it.
Let me guess, your the type that wants to get married and have a husband that takes care of everything for you, right?
You’re the type that wants your husband to buy you a nice house, and to stay home and take care of the little rug rats.
Keep in mind, most men like women that take a little initiative. Keep in mind 50 % of marriages end in divorce. At the very least he’ll cheat on you with a dominatrix.
It’s women like you that put the rest us back before the women’s right movements.
Get a god damn life.

Debra,
If you are asking if Catholics have a choice about the sex of their priests, you DO NOT have a choice. That is up the Pope and the hierarchy of the church. Since the Pope is very conservative I don't think we will see any female priests for a long time.
However, being liberated has its own choices and benefits-- good and bad. That's another question altogether.

From what I understand, Catholics "as a whole" would probably be quite supportive of female priests. We as a society seem to believe that women are equal in talents as men in every aspect of our lives. So I imagine that if it were to come to a vote, it would at least be quite close.
Secondly, it is not up to Catholics "as a whole" to decide on this topic. This is a debate to be called upon by the Pope, whomever *he* happens to be at any given point. Pope John Paul II, for example, had quite a bit to say about it. Most notably, he was *quite* in favour of allowing women to ascent the pulpit, but felt that it was not his job to decide who is allowed to be priests for the religion. He felt that his job was to interpret and only interpret what the Bible says ... and in so doing, help Catholics to understand where their duties and obligations lay. And I recall his very emotional speech that he has found that the Bible expressly forbids female priests.
Finally, the head covering that some Muslim women choose to wear is not steeped in a tradition of submission, but in protection.

I don't think people want to liberate woman who do not care to be liberated. What they want is to remove the obstacles for women who choose to liberated themselves.
If a muslim chooses not to wear a Hijab then she should have the right to without being punished. If a woman in africa doesn't want her daughter's clittoris removed she should have the right not to do it.

If a woman lives in and area of the world where her husband can say "I divorce you" three times and through her out on the street, and she doesn't have any rights to see her own children. Why would you think she would feel she has the right to speak out?

Preach on Sister.
The whole world should mind it's own business. Why must we change things people don't even want changed. We should
change our own lives if we can and let other people be. Wouldn't the world be a more pleasant place to be if every one would do that one simple thing.
I'm with you on this one.

well yes, but maybe some catholic women would like to be priests. if it's something like that you should allow it, but anyways, i think all women should be given the opportunity for equal rights, and the opportunity is kept open, adn if they don't take it that's their choice.

you have the ability to make that choice *because* you are liberated. Those that aren't liberated do not have the right to chose, therefore their free will has been taken away by man / man's interpretation of God's word.
