Budgies are available all year round but breeders tend to sell off the older and non breeders in early Spring. In our area, the highest demand is from start of school through Mother's Day. The best way to tell if the bird is young is to look at the seer, the area directly above the beak. In males, it is vivid blue and females it is brown or pinkish lavender. This indicates the bird is at least 6 months old. Very young birds have fine black barring from the front of the head to the back of the neck that mostly disappears as the bird matures.

I suggest that you purchase a budgie during the spring so that the temperature is not too hot or cold. Just to let you know, budgies don't like drafts.

anytime! if you live in a cold place during winter, don't put them near open windows at night and keep them warm. i learned that lesson when i was younger.
