The tooth and surrounding gum tissue are beginning to rot, causing the odor.

Rinse your mouth with hot salt water ... the salt will reduce the swelling and the heat will help ease the discomfort of the infection. Place ice on the OUTSIDE of your face to give comfort at the jawline. Get a bottle of Listerine or the generic equivalent (just as good) and rinse often .. this will help kill the bacteria. Take a pain killer and anti-inflammatory like Aleve to dull the pain, and don't cancel your dental appointment when the symptoms subside, because they will come back!

Infection would be my best answer. I know that even if my daughter has a ear, nose or throat infection her breathe smells terrible. Also, a close friend of mine who gets frequent sinus infections says she can tell one is coming by the bad taste she gets in her mouth.

I will by no means say this is safe, so use at your own risk!!!!! I once stuffed a 1/4 of a acetememiphon in the hole (if there is one). Tasted horrible but seemed to work some. That or try tylenol then 2 hrs later ibuprofen. Alternate every two hours. My step-son did this after a tonsilectomy when his stomach could no longer handle Roxicet narcotic.

Having a bad taste in the mouth can be because of inflammed gingiva or in other words you can say a gum disease. One of the most reliable and reprodicible sign of gum disease is bleeding on slight provocation or spontaneous bleeding in severe cases. You are definitely suffering from a gum disease. The next cause is abscess in the mouth and gingiva. Yet others are periodontal pockets, a grossly decayed tooth, or a retained rooth stump after gross destruction of the coronal portion of the crown, any opening sinus tract from a perapical abscess or a periodontal abscess. Whatever be the cause you need to see your dentist to get the condition treated.

The infection. I have the same problem. I floss the affected tooth as much as possible. And brush and suck mints to lose the rotten taste.

It's the delightful smell of pus-filled flesh.

You're not going to get rid of the smell, and can do your best to cover it up with mints. Go to the dentist soon!
