Are you running Windows XP? If so, you should try disabling automatic restart on errors. To do that perform the following steps:
Right click my computer, click properties. Click on Advanced and then under "Startup and Recovery" click on Settings. Make sure the "Automatically Restart" is unchecked. You may require a reboot for the setting to take effect.
Try burning a DVD with Roxio 7 and be sure to have a pen and paper ready to take down the error message (make sure you take everything down!) and post it again here.
I have am almost certain it is a driver problem but have to verify what driver file is conflicting.

It sounds like a RAM failure problem. That's the most likely cause for spontaneous system shutdown. Also, Roxio is a bit buggy. Download the latest patches from their website.

windows me? there were lots of compatibility problems between cd/dvd drives, mfr. software, and windows me. I don't know if they ever fixed the problems - have since switched to XP.
one thing that kept the CD software from crashing as much was to do a full defrag on the hard drive - it had something to do with the conflict between the buffer temp-files and the processor, but the defrag operation cleared it up somewhat.

Yes. You bought a cheap piece of shite and you should have spent the extra cash for a Dell or not have even bought a computer.
