I grew up in a Pentecostal family. I used to attend Baptist churches. I guess you would say "I used to be a Christian." I still believe in God, just not in the same way as most people. I feel that God has done a lot of great things in my life, but I do not subscribe to the whole Bible/Jesus/Moses/Commandments/Holy Land rhetoric.
My main beef with Christians is that some denominations go around with a "holier than thou" attitude, pushing their religious beliefs on other people, telling people they NEED to accept Jesus into their hearts, and telling people that they will be praying for them.
You know, here in the Midwest USA, if a Jew went around "preaching the gospel" of Judaism to people, or if a homosexual went around trying to turn people gay, there would be a MASSIVE backlash from society at large. BUT, Christians seem to think that they can do the same thing without consequence because they are "right."
Why can't Christians keep their religious preferences to themselves?

Also, I am not trying to cause a fight. I just get supremely annoyed by people thinking that I am going to suffer eternally if I do not agree with everything they say and change my entire life around to fit their standards.

I think it's funny that several of the answers to this question have proved my point so well.
And, NO, I will NOT be suffering eternally. I believe in a higher power and I live a good life, and I like to help people.
As for the "For Jesus or Against Jesus" statement, and those that say that you "MUST ACCEPT" the Word of God, that is a total lie. I guess you are saying that Asians, Indians, Africans, and other ethnic groups with alternate religions are doomed to Hell. Way to go, idiots. I guess we now see which of us are REALLY good people and not just pawns of a politically-minded establishment.

I am devout Catholic and I totally agree with you.
Live and let live.
It just is NOT something you can successfully shove down anybody's throat.
That's why about 99% of all young people around the age of 18-20 will go through a phase where they either change their religion or give it up, or it becomes stronger.
We are free, at least in this country, to worship as we please, or not at all. Evangelism bugs the heck out of me.

Don't worry about what other people think. Ask God what is HIS truth instead of people who make up their own particular brand of religion. Then you won't have to worry about asking questions of people who don't have a clue themselves.
The reason Christians can't keep their religious preferences to themselves is because they are literally commanded to share the good news (gospel) with those that have never heard it. Just because most people have been reared in dysfunctional churches doesn't change God's revealed Word. It just means that people need to learn who Jesus Christ really is for themselves and quit taking someone else's word for it. The only way I want to be identified is not with some denominational label, but as a follower of Christ and doer of His word.

Christians are imbued with a charge by God to spread the word of Christianity. I agree that some denominations have become sanctimonious and almost rude (ultra conservative right wingers especially). I believe in freedom of religion which gives me my right to practice my faith and I just have to tolerate the religious crazies until they intrude on my freedom of religion. Then something must be said and/or done.

The reason Christians spread the word is because Bible tells them to. And according to the Bible Jesus is the only way to eternal life... so we as Christians want to take as many people with us to heaven as possible.

You were never a Christian if you did not accept Jesus and the Bible is the Word of God.

I am a Christian too, and I do believe that a lot of Christians out there are too "extreme" and force their beliefs on others...like you, I don't believe they should be doing this, and I do get annoyed with them when they do that....I think Jesus wanted us to lead others to him by example....as in your life should be a LIGHT to others...I don't think it is right for Christians to force their beliefs on others that way, but just to be good, loving people that show the love of Jesus to everyone....I am upset because a lot of people refuse to be Christians because of the CHRISTIANS--then these Christians think that people don't like them because they are preaching the Gospel....whereas, they just don't like the way they force Christianity on others, and they think that when they become Christians, all they're going to do is pray and go forcing their beliefs on others.....what's the saddest thing is a lot of people think that Jesus is this way, where He isn't....Jesus is loving, kind, and He would never force Himself on you (hence, free will)....I'm glad you still believe in GOD, and I hope you still keep your faith in Him....God bless!

For those you meet that can't tolerate any change from the strict laws laid down in the Bible read Why Can't I Own a Canadian? just do a search for it and it will be faster than typing out it's nine mile long web address. It's funny, polite and will shut up almost any Biblethumper with the evil of their own ways. Have fun.

So you have moved from Christian to anti Christan correct.
Jesus said you are either for Him or against Him. Where do you really stand. For or against.?
And for the folks that claim to be Christian and you are in agreement with him, where do you stand against or for Him?
Don't you all see this is just a way for someone to discredit Jesus. Making a mockery of Him with this type of question in public forum.

It isn't "our" standards , it's God's . You go and have your own opinion , but ultimately it's up to God . I don't try to bring my opinion , I use Scriptures to back it up . I can't speak for everybody , but we are to live our lives by the Scriptures . 2nd Timothy 3:16-17 There is only one way to salvation , John 14:6 . It is all written down for everyone to see . It is even simple enough for a child to understand . Pray that God will give you wisdom and understanding .

We are accountable for sharing. We are just doing our job, no "pushing" our beliefs. We have been asked by Jesus to share the gospel. By the way, you can't turn REAL Christianity off and on.
