Depends.

If you want it to light up fast and burn bright, you might want old, seasoned pine.

However, if you want the fire to last, maybe a good hardwood, like oak.

Either way, make sure you do this away from any homes or public buildings.

By the way, you do know that burning the cross won't make Christians "go away"? God will still be God, long after your fire goes out. He's survived such nonsense for eons........

Whatever kind is at the church. We had one at our Parochial school that the brothers set on fire, it burned forever I have no idea what kind, perhaps Oak.
