If you mean the mainland Chinese, yes I agree.
Most people had never been out of China until 1980's, and never watched foreign TV programs. Cos their government didn't allow to see other world. They basically don't know what is goin on outside China.
Even today, there are more than 40 ch of cavle TV(CCTV), however, International channel is only 1. Hongkong ch are 2. others are in Chinese or local languages and broadcast domestic news, dramas and comedies..only.
On the other hand, I have worked with Chinese those from Malaysia, Singapore, etc. They are very sophisticated.
Main land Chinese and other Chinese are different.
Even the pronunciation of their Mandarin are not same.

Well, I have always found the Chinese to be like most others, some nice, some not so much so. I can also say when I went to China it seemed to me that on the whole, they do not think it's rude to stare or even openly point at others. Also, many are quite vocal with criticisms that we would consider rude. They made many comments to me about being "fat"- I'm not fat by American standards, but to them I guess my big boobs qualified as fat and they had no problem just coming up to me and saying, "Why are Americans so fat like you?" I didn't let it change my mind about the country or the people, I still like China and the Chinese. I am sorry you are going through this experience, though, and wish you better luck and better encounters!

why are some china people so rude? here's a list I can think of, living in Hong Kong all my life, experiencing the differences between American Chinese European Chinese Singaporean Chinese Malaysian Chinese Taiwanese Chinese hongkong Chinese and mainland Chinese. you cannot generalize all Chinese just like you cannot put an equal sign between Canadian-french and french-french.
1. single child policy. most people don't know how to live with other people, they don't know how to be considerate even at the family level
2. post-war insecurity. they have to fight for the most basic things, rip other people off otherwise they will be ripped off
3. rebound freedom: when you free a prisoner who has spent 30yrs in jail, he may indulge himself and lose direction
4. cultural: masculinity: that it's OK for guys to look a bit dirtier, talk louder etc, this defines masculinity
5. cultural: sense of community (commune): the concept of personal space is sometimes non-existent

I agree with your points, I am Cantonese of HK, hi there, not only you feel and shame about, and it's just the mother nature of Chinese like that, perhaps from the past generations especially from 60's to 80's, those people right now are just a soon to be a "garbage" what i mean, that is their "job" in their daily life, they don't care about what is the manner what is the etiquette, what is the selfishness that treats other inconvenience cause, they don't care about others if this is right and that is wrong that may considerate, and they just care about themselves how they ENJOY THEIR LIFE, not only the rude of their daily essentials, even Chinese people all around the world, and became one of the powerful group in the global, however, what's bad behind the back! You see most of the rubbish waste and being wasteful of percentage are mostly from Chinese people! BECAUSE NOW CHINESE PEOPLE ALSO HAS BEEN SPOILED!!! Oh well... I'm shamed of myself being Chinese as a matter of fact!

Well, yes many mainland chinese people are like this but what you observe as being rude is simply the western dictation of rudness and not the chinese.
For instance, burping in china is not considered a rude thing to do, same as farting.....but in the west it is, similarly in japan it is considered very disgusting to blow your nose into a tissue or hankachief and carry it around in your pocket, but in the west it is the norm.
Just this morning my taxi driver broke wind without even blinking whilst i was sitting in the back of his cab, it stank! and yet he muttered obcentities at ME when i opened the window because the aircon was on ( I live in Hong Kong).

First of all, how old are you?? "China people" are called Chinese. Second, you can't classify a whole country on bad guests. This is a rare case of rude and uncivilized people that visited your house. Most Chinese people that I know are well mannered and very respectful which manly comes from their culture. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with your guests but please don't get a bad idea of Chinese people based upon your bad experience.
P.S. I'm not Chinese, so don't think that I'm saying this because I'm Chinese.

I'm afraid yes, there are people like that in China. I am from Singapore and in my job I have regularly met mainland Chinese here who really didn't know how to behave. It is just too awful !!
I think most of the people who behave like that come from either small cities or the countryside. In the larger cities like Beijing or Chengdu things seem to be changing for the good...there is more awareness of how to behave in front of strangers and you can find some really interesting and nice people sometimes.

I'm a Chinese from South East Asia and we have strict rules about such poor manners and I don't think your visitors have very good upbringing.
I don't mean to categorise, are they from the countryside/rural areas? From what I know about Chinese who grew up in cities, they are usually very careful and well-mannered.
Maybe get another Chinese to tell them off. Its easier to scold them in their own dialect. Preferably someone older than them. Seniority should be able to scare them proper.

I'm going to guess that these are mainly the customs or values that Chinese people go by, although, I don't mean to make a generalisation, perhaps they're just an odd bunch.
But if they do these things, why haven't you just explained to them that this isn't the way it works in western culture (guessing you're in USA?)?
