Can someone help me, my Bible is broken. I have a question about the word ABOMINATION?

Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (NKJV)
So this is saying that homosexuality is an ABOMINATION. But then in 11:9-12 it says eating shrimp is also an ABOMINATION.
9 ‘These you may eat of all that are in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers—that you may eat. 10 But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which is in the water, they are an abomination to you. 11 They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. 12 Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales—that shall be an abomination to you.

So please explain this to me, this standard of morality, where having gay sex is just as bad as eating shrimp. Does this mean, its really not that bad to be having gay sex?

I wish that I had the answer for your question.But I don't.There are many verses in the Bible that I don't understand,some I don't even agree with,but overall my faith is still with the Lord and in the Bible as a tool to help me be a better person.I know this may come as a shock,since I'm Catholic,but I don't see God sending gays to Hell just for being gay.I still believe that you need to actually turn away from God at the time of your death to go to Hell. I love shellfish(clams,scallops).I certainly hope God won't hold that against me. Peace.....

Why do you ask what abomination means then you change the question to how reliable is the Bible's judgement according to the 'standards of morality' by comparing shrimps to gays. I dont mean to be rude but the opening line to your question sounds really odd. As if somehow you could not fathom the meaning of abomination cause your 'Bible is broken'...
Anyway, i can only deduce that you question whether gay sex is really that bad if in the same breath we are called on not to have shrimp. To the best of my (Christianly) knowledge and standards, the latter of which is generally quite high, the Old Testament contains information which was slightly altered when Jesus arrived (in the New Testament) to enrich God's laws by which Christians are called on to abide by.
I, as a Christian cannot and will not judge you if you choose to play bottoms up and act the part of the double adaptor, thats your decision. With every choice one makes in life, comes consequences, God knows your heart, if you claim to be a Christian and you choose to live your life as a homosexual, God sees beyond your weaknesses (because it is anti-social and anti-family etc) to choose a same sex partner. However, you might be a budding inventor and contribute in such a lovely way to humanity that you are a blessing in being able to do this, so, as i said before, i cannot judge you on the choices you make in this life, God is the ultimate judge. I must admit, of all the gay people i've met in this life, usually the males tend to find it hard to live up to society's expectations of being a 'man', and they tend to shy away from commitment or real responsibility. Usually lesbians are simply disillusioned with males...oh well, there but for the Grace of God go I, so, everything of the best with your life, hope you will choose the sensible things which come your way, take care now, Whizzdom.

And I don't know what kind of Bible you are reading, but eating shrimp is soo not as bad as 2 guys having sex.

Note the language in each passage. God says that homosexual sex IS an abomination. In the case of foods, however, he commands the Israelites to REGARD certain foods as abominations. So gay sex is intrinsically wrong, but the food laws only imposed a sense of wrongness to certain foods -- the foods themselves weren't intrinsically immoral.

godly wisdom here, declare the final outcome of the two "ways". The paths of "sinners" (unbelievers) and the "way of the righteous. he speaks progressively of assoociation with the ungodly and participation in they're ungodly ways.

It means that you shouldn't have sex with men OR eat shrimp. You either have to listen to all of it, or none of it. If you pick and choose which of the laws to obey, you are a hypocrite.

Read the verses carefully.

This is saying don't eat anyting without scales.... Think about it....everything in the water... Not everything in the water has scales...This is what the message is.
