As much as I would like that to be true, the reasons why aren't really accurate. East Germany was communist, very poor, and very underdeveloped. People didn't commit crimes often because they all had jobs and all had what they needed, even if they were poor.
The West side was plagued with crime because it was a society based on capitalism. People could keep the money they earned, but some had no jobs and thus were driven to crime out of desperation.
Crime went up because when communism ceased to provide jobs and money for the East-siders they were often unemployed and went hungry. Crime is caused by poor situations and poor decisions, not religion or lack there of.
This is not an endorsement of communism or religion.

Your argument is flawed on a number of points.
FIRST: It is doubtfull that any country called Christian is "mostly" populated by Christians, anymore than a Muslim nation is mostly populated by terrorists.
SECOND: It is doubtfull that you can support the statement that most Russians are atheists. Maybe all the Russian Orthodox and Muslim populations were excluded from residence in East Germany?
THIRD: Under the communist dictatorship (by one or a few) the reporting of criminal statistics is a real problem. Remember the west was decadent but the Soviet Union was pure as the driven snow.
FOURTH: If we accept your report; than it was the atheists of East Germany who broke through the Berlin Wall in order to rush into the arms of the super criminal, decadent Christians in West Germany. Is that what you would have us believe?
FIFTH, BUT NOT LAST: You are putting forth Atheism as a belief system which is best for mankind? In other words you want to make a religion out of it! I would submit that your position is just a reaction to Christianity. Kinda like getting married to a blonde because your don't like brunettes. I don't think I would base a marriage, or even a philosophy, on that kind of reasoning.

I am all for athiesm, and in keeping with this persons east germany illustration, I am also for rampant domineering communism to limit crime.
It's a well known FACT that crime in the eastern bloc nations was low due to the oppressive regime of communism.
THATS A FACT. DEAL WITH IT.
Hail Lenin.

What you really need to prove is....
How many of those crimes were commited by Christians. How many commited by Atheists. Then you will have a logical and undeniable truth.
But right now all you have is a high crime rate where Christians live. This doesn't mean Christians are doing the crime though.

They do not follow logic it is a useless effort to get them to try. All religions, minus Buddism, have violent histories.
Atheists are more tolerant then any christian. The only thing we ask is to not be bombarded with your beliefs. If that makes us bad people in your eyes, then you have a more narrow-minded view then I thought.
