Babies need familiarity and continuity. Babies can't handle to much stimulation-~~noise,too much activity happening around them, etc. Babies need sleep-in fact we all need our sleep so you must get to the root of the problem. Sometime allergies can be a problem, Don't introduce solid foods to soon. Introduce solid foods slowly so you can see how the baby is reacting to each new food. All baby should be being breastfed or given formula at your child's age. Regular cow's milk is not good for tiny infants like yours. If you are breastfeeding your child, don't drink things with caffeine in it because this can keep the baby awake. Plain cow's milk can be irritating to the stomach of an infant. There is definitely something wrong if your child at the young age of 5 months is not sleep any more than you say she is. Try making sure she is dressed properly for the weather, put her in a dark room to sleep~~~but always be listening and don't let her cry for prolonged periods~~hold her and let her know you care about her needs, be sure it is quiet--not even the radio near her to hear. Some says crying it is good. It is NOT. I say if crying is good then bleeding must be wonderful for the body. Crying is not good for babies. Babies need their wants satisfied. When their wants are satisfied they will sleep contently and not cry much. Rocking is soothing. You have been given charge over this tiny human being. She needs to be your priority for this time in your life. She is living breathing and not just a doll to put somewhere on the shelf somewhere, but to be loved and cared for to grow and develop to her full potential. Part of this responsibility is tenderly loving her. There have been experiments in orphanages where people fed, bathed and cleaned babies but had no loving touching. The babies died. Humans need touch. Touch that sweet child alot ,gently. Babies have such wonderfully smooth skin. This should be a pleasure. Your baby isn't happy for some reason. Find out why, be willing to give more of yourself to discover the reason. Raising this infant is the most important job you will ever have.

Babies and children are hard work.
Some babies are like some adults and don't need much sleep.
Before the baby arrives you think all you do is feed the baby then it sleeps until the next feed then you feed the baby again.
Some do.
Some are active at an early age, watching and listening, have patience, talk to her, she will enjoy your kind words.
Imagine if you was her and could not move or talk or explain how you feel.
Time goes fast and she will change her habits every few weeks.
Your next baby could be the opposite and sleep a lot

Make sure she has a big feed before you put her to sleep. Another trick is to keep her to the same bed time every night and when she cries make sure she is OK but don't lift her just let her cry. This will go on for about 3 or 4 nights before she gets the message just don't cave in. I know it is hard to hear her cry but trust me if you can do this for just a few days not only will she benefit from a good nights sleep but you and your partner will TOO!

perhaps keeping your little one awake during those hours she sleeps. Many pple think that it is good to have thier child nap before dinner, infact then the child is up until 12 or later! It's hard but you as a parent have to set rules early so your child will not over stepp when they are older.
Consider what is in your child's diet, do not do anything too stimulating before bed time... no tickles and peek a boos while you tuck in your wee one at night...
Are you still nursing? Have you nursed? If so consider your diet, it should be a bland diet until you decide to switch to a bottle for your young one...
try rubbing your little one's tummy before bed, if she/he wants to fall asleep in your arms, that's good, just be sure to move your younin to thier own bed so they don't get too attached to being with mommy... perhaps your wee one wants to be with you... just make the transition gradual, don't do too much too soon. Let your child get used to a new routine before deciding to switch... it may take a few weeks for such routines to become established, but stick with it... if your child knows that after crying for a while, you come running... they'll out last you...
you know when your child needs attention or is just trying to get it... you are your best judge and do what you feel is right for you and your family.
God Bless,
Shannon

Try and keep her up during the 4 hours in the day time.... she just has night and day confused which happens with alot of babys... so if you keep her up all day then she will sleep at night ... and make sure you feed her something heavy before you put her to bed(baby cereal, baby food) then she will sleep amazing for you

I don't have much ( any ) experience with babies however one thing that has always helped me go to sleep is a glass of cold milk, I find that it makes me dozy and sleepy. Possibly keep her more active during the day as well so that she is more tired, if that doesn't help and the problem persists, take her to the doctor.

Dont let her sleep to long in the day, keep her amused, just let her have a little nap after lunch, then later on bath her, and let her sleep, she should last most of the night, fresh air helps too, try it, it worked with all my children, good luck.

My baby used to go to sleep in about 6 minutes if i had the vacuum cleaner on. I think there is a CD you can buy now that has these sort of 'white noises' on that babies seem to like. Sorry i don't know the name. Good Luck.
