Dear Fun-n-Citrus,
Atheism is not a true Religion, in that a Religion is a belief system revealed by God that Man may worship Him.
Atheism is the antithesis of Religion, put an other way, the absolute absence of Religion. An atheist is one who does not believe in any kind of God or deity.
An atheist can become so fanatical about his beliefs that it would seem that 'atheism' is his 'religion.'
Weird, huh!
I hope that helped.

You got the answers above, so I don't need to add to mine, except don't confuse Atheism with Agnosticism. (I know you didn't ask, but many people think they're two in the same when it isn't).
Agnosticism is when you QUESTION the existence of God, and don't disbelieve it entirely. Most people who claim to be Atheists, are truly Agnostics, and it is evident when I have seen them pray when things are not going that well with them.

And no, dear, you're not dumb, and don't let anyone make you feel like you are. None of us are born knowing and this is a good place to ask questions about things that you don't know.

Wise Guy (#14, right above my answer) You have been reading Ann Coulter and you're both full of manure.

An atheist believes there is no God.
Therefore atheism is a belief system.
Therefore it is a religion.
Therefore, atheists are religious.
Religious people worship something.
Therefore, atheists are people who worship their intellect.
"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Rom 1:22
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen." Rom 1:25 KJV

Atheism is not a religion; it is a philosophy of life which excludes the supernatural from its explanation for a large variety of observable phemomena. Atheists believe in employing rational thought in their way of seeing the world.

Atheism, in its broadest sense, is an absence of belief in the existence of gods. This definition includes both those who assert that there are no gods, and those who make no claim about whether gods exist or not.
