Do you want the fastest route, or the more scenic one? The main (5) freeway will take 5+ hours. The more scenic route 1 up the coast will take significantly longer, BUT, is a much nicer drive.

You can also get cheap flights out of San Jose to Burbank (or vice versa) on Southwest Airlines.
If you want to drive and take a more beautiful drive, go down Hwy 1 on the coast. it will take longer but a great trip.
