See, they can't comprehend what they read, Jesus said not a jot or tittle of the law would change, but that if you were obeying the laws simply for forms sake you should just quit.

so, they eat pork because they want to. And they answer questions like this so they can tell you to go to hell and say the scripture made them do it.

I think it's funny.

CHRISTIANS DON'T WANT TO FOLLOW JESUS; DIDN'T YOU KNOW THAT, "FOR ALL SEEK THEIR OWN, NOT THE THINGS WHICH ARE JESUS CHRIST'S."--(PHIL.2:21)

"FOR THEY BEING IGNORANT OF GOD'S RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND GOING ABOUT TO ESTABLISH THEIR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, HAVE NOT SUBMITTED THEIRSELVES UNTO THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD." = (ROM.10:3)

Unfortunately gentile Christians generally disregard the law of God that he gave to Moses errantly thinking it doesn't apply to gentile followers of Yeshua. They're right, and they're wrong.

There's four aspects of the Mosaic law:
1. The laws involving the priesthood and the temple; nobody can keep these today, because there's not an active priesthood, and there is no temple.
2. Symbolic laws like don't wear a linen/wool blend garment.- Linen keeps you cool, wool keeps you warm, this is a metaphor to be understood to mean that we shouldn't be luke-warm. There's a few more of this type of law also. Keeping these literally borders on silly, but appreciating the underlying meaning is wise.
3. Cause & Effect laws. These include the sanitary laws involving washing your hands before you eat, and cleaning dishware etc. Obviously anyone who keeps these will benefit in the flesh.
4. Laws that reflect the righteousness of God. God is the creator of life, therefore, thou shalt not murder. God is faithful and true, therefore, thou shalt not commit adultery, etc. Laws in this category ARE MANDATORY FOR GENTILE BELIEVERS.

Dietary laws may be in contention because after the flood, God told Noah all animals are OK to eat, but the law of Moses narrows the field considerably. Why? Are all "unclean" animals unhealthy? All pigs have trichina worm infestation, carry their fat in the meat (muscle), and have no sweat glands so toxins, hormones and heavy metals are retained in the flesh.

The culture with the longest life-span is Japan. They eat plenty of pork, sea-dwelling scavengers and other unclean meats. Eskimos eat straight whale blubber and don't seem to suffer any ill effects from it. So what gives with the Dietary laws of the Hebrews?

I think it was intended for Jews living in the land of promise only. God appointed the "bounds of our habitation" for all the families of the earth, Jews and gentiles alike. Every culture strikes an equilibrium with the food-chain where they live. What is unhealthy for one family of people may not be for another. Eskimos who relocate to warmer climates begin to have problems with cholesteral, where in colder climates they do not.

So I think God was just telling the Hebrews what's good and what's not, for who they are and where they live.

I believe that law comes from Leviticus, a book which was written thousands of years ago. My father-in-law is a butcher, and tells me that pork breaks down very quickly when not properly handled. Thus it made sense to those without modern refrigeration to avoid a potentially dangerous food. If you were also to read the old testament, you would also find that it is OK to own slaves. Times do change, my friend.

Christians have read the New Testament, where Jesus declares that nothing should be considered unclean anymore. All foods are ok now, and all people are considered clean.
In Old Testament times, Jewish people were considered unclean if they went into a gentile's home, and Jewish homes were considered unclean if a gentile entered.
Not so anymore. So invite all your interracial friends to the next pig-on-a-spit potluck and eat up!

Churches have pig roasts?

When does that happen?

Generally, its not a big thing, but I suppose that some Churches might have a luau or barbeque depending on their culture.

The phrase that Christians use to legitimize the eating of pork was spoken by Jesus, who criticized much of Levititcus. He said "What comes into my mouth condemns me not, for it goes into the ditch. What comes out of my mouth condemns me for it flys to heaven". Or some such quote.

Can you accept that eating of pork does not mean to offend anyone, but is part of the traditions of other cultures?

Peter's Vision
Acts 10: 9About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."
14"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."

15The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."

16This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

17While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon's house was and stopped at the gate. 18They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

19While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them."

21Peter went down and said to the men, "I'm the one you're looking for. Why have you come?"

22The men replied, "We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say." 23Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

The Old Testament, which applies to the Jews, forbids eating of pork. The New Testament says that all the old laws no longer apply, and abiding by them makes them more important than worshipping God...there are the 11 commandments (the 11th is to love thy neighbor as thyself), and that's it. :)

Because Christians somehow believe that they can twist the Bible to explain all sorts of things.

For example, the great Solomon had 500+ wives. Mormans having 2 wives? Proposterous!

You'll learn to laugh at their hypocricy.

Acts 10:9-16 clearly shows that what God provides is not to be considered "unclean."
