My answer to her?
they are not
this is why and check yourself.
1. Take out a Bible, any Bible.
2. Take out the Catholic Catechism.
3. Compare the teachings in the Bible with the teachings in the catechism.
4. Any discrepancies int the catechism that are not in agreement or from the Bible are why Catholics are not Christians.

You are correct. That is not an appropriate response.
You are also correct, Catholicism and Christianity are quite different.

Cletus, it's not about Catholics in general. God looks at an individuals heart. I have friends who are catholic that are definitely saved. They may not be growing Christians but they know the Lord. You cannot bundle all catholics into one lump.
The catholic church does teach some things that don't line up with the Bible. I know many people who have left the catholic church after they realized some of the teachings didn't line up with the Bible. You might be better served to focus on the personal relationship with Jesus as opposed to picking apart doctrine. Once someone starts reading the Bible, they soon find out there are holes in the catholic doctrine. A true seeker will find the Truth. The job of a Christian is to lead them to the Truth in a gentle way.

Your idiotic statement, total lack of logic, and apparent desire to start a fight got you the kind of answer you deserve.
All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholic. Christian means followers of Jesus Christ.
Baptists, Episcopals, Presbyterians, Amish, Mennonite, Methodists, Coptics, Maronites are all Christians. They all follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
You are obviously not a biblical scholar. Comparing the Bible to Catechism is about like comparing salsa to tomato soup. Both have the same basic ingredient, but the flavor is slightly different.

I can understand her frustration. I saw a pamphlet put out by some extreme religious group that told why they didn't believe that Catholics were Christians. If I was a Catholic and had stuff like that directed at me, I'd probably get upset, too.
What so many of these groups forget, is that the Catholic church is the original Christian church that all the Protestants left to form their own sects.

Since the Catholic Church was basically the Christian church before all the other denominations formed, especially after the reformation and such... the Catholic Church had A LOT of influence on Christianity as a whole. So, when we protestants reference the Catholic church that doesn't mean we are slamming them (or at least I'm not.) Protestants just need to understand that Catholics ARE Christian... it is just one more denomination. And Catholics need to realize that not every Protestant thinks they are wrong.

I have read the Holy Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Church is the ONLY Christian Church that goes entirely and strictly in accordance with Christian teaching.

Your answer is technically correct.
Christians consider Jesus to be Lord, thus the moniker "Christian" which means "little Christ", thus followers of Jesus.
Contrariwise, Catholics consider the word of the popes to be superior to even that of Jesus. Even the title Pontifex Maximus infers that he's greater than all other.
In short, the teaching of the Romish church contradicts the teaching of the Bible, and misleads many followers such that they never find true salvation through grace by faith.

It isn't a Christ like responce. However, you can't say that all Catholics are not Christians. I have some friends who are catholic who do have Christ like attitudes. They believe that Christ died on the cross for their sins the same as I do.The only one who has a right to make the decision as to weather someone is saved is God himself.I'm glad he didn't make you my judge.Instead of condemning, why not try loving. Even Christ love the Samaritan woman. He didn't attack her beliefs or her way of life or the fact she worshiped differently. He did care weather she knew him as Christ. He also didn't throw stones at the woman taken in adultery. So,the rock is in your hand.what you choose to do with it will determine how Christ like you are.

Not necessarily so, Cletus! By definition, a Christian is one who believes in the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. If you believe that Jesus was the Messiah, and that he died for your sins, and you believe that he was resurrected in three days, then you are by definition a Christian. I do not condone Meridith's answer, and it shows her lack of spiritual maturity, but she IS considered a Christian!

A Christian is anyone who believes in and follows the teachings of Christ.
Perhaps she doesn't fit your narrow definition of Christian, but that's just your opinion.
