This is easy: the belief in Hell. It is based on this that so many people are afraid to question the Bible or Christianity, let alone change it or interpret it in the "incorrect" way. So many people are Christians because they're petrified of being roasted for eternity. Without the fear of Hell, the concept of original sin and Paul's rhethoric would not carry nearly as much baggage, and people would no longer have the justification to preach at and judge other people for their beliefs (or lack thereof).
