I'm not an expert on pet meds, but when I had my cat, we used that stuff, and it worked. As long as your cats are able to go outside, they are possibly being exposed to fleas and should have flea prevention medication.

DO NOT use over the counter flea medications from pet stores, they very often cause allergic reactions and seizures (I work in a vet hospital and have seen it many times). I recommend products like Advantage and Revolution as they are very safe. You can get them from your veterinarian. Flea collar do nothing, don't even bother.
Most outdoor cats will have fleas at some point, as fleas live outside, but if you use a good flea product your cat will have a 'barrier' against fleas, and they won't bring any in the house where they can bite you.

use the flea product that you have and watch the cats for any kind of reaction. foaming at the mouth, lethargy, stumbling. if you see any of these symptoms wash the cats off make sure you rinse the soap off. call your vet as to what has happened and get the cats to the vet immediately. you can use any soap like dawn or Palmolive fleas are a problem year round in most places but we do have ways to deal with them. the only 2 products that are safe that i would use are frontline and advantage. any other products cause more harm than good . those other products make the vets alot of money. we fix more sick dogs and cats whose owners bought something from the grocery store than you can imagine. talk to your vet as to how to best get rid of the fleas in your area.

Yes outdoor cats are prone to flea infestation all their lives. I get stuff from the vet to put on their back.. its a drop thingie clear fluid and lasts about 2 to 3 months. Usually they aren't allergic to them if they are used to flea treatments.

Store bought flea meds are usually dangerous and have been known to kill cats. Only buy your flea meds from your vets. Advantage or frontline plus are theebest spot flea killer. And yes they do work.

first take the cat to the vet for a flea dip to kill what is already on her. then i would ask the vet for Frontline or something like it for protection against another outbreak. Outdoor and indoor cats are all subject to fleas. there is no one time magic cure. they need to be treated constantly.

I have used some of those drops you have to put on the back of their neck and they worked just fine. I suppose cats are the same as us, as in you don't know whether you are allergic to something until you have used it. Mine have all been fine with it.
And yes, fleas are horrible!!! We had a MAJOR infestation in my old house. They can survive in your furnishings for years! Minging!
