Asking for specific clarification seems like a reasonable response to such a general and vague question. Instead, his face turned red, his voice got loud, and he clenched his fist at me. He started yelling, "What do you mean, which god?!?!? There is only one God!!! All religions only worship the one God in many forms!!!!" I thought he was either going to have a heart attack, or assault me, so I pulled the car over to the side of the road just in case. I tried to explain to him that each religion believed in various incompatible gods and that is one of the principle reason why there are so many religions, denominations, and wars fought over the definition of god. Of course he only grew more agitated and finally I realized that we either needed to change the topic, or I was going to have to kick hisass in self defence. Have you ever witnessed this type of raw hatred from someone who believed in god? It was rather chilling.

The real question is, why would they want to hit you? Theism usually promotes peace and love.

Dude that sounds pretty messed up. Sounds like that guy has had a bit of a break from reality. But then most religious people are broken from reality. Oh well. Unfortunately theres not much you can do about it. Just have to make sure that the next generation is a bit more free thinking.

I've never witnessed something like this, but I must say, he didn't seem to know much about any religion but his own. Sure, Jews, Muslims, and Christians all worship the God of Abraham, but where do Hindus, Pagans, and of course, Pastafarians fit in?

I think it was your use of the phrase - - - incompatible Gods - - - it is not God or Gods that is incompatible but the the religion, the worship itself - - - God or the Gods exist no matter how people chose to interpret or worship them/him/her. Raw hatred is a very human trait. Peace.

Pinheads can get aggressive when their belief system is challenged. It's best to avoid these people whenever possible.

The only ones I believe in and pray to are the football gods and the poker gods. The rest may as well not exist.

And probably don't.

Yes, you can witness it here on Yahoo Answers daily.

It is okay in our culture to assume "God" is the Christian/Jewish/Muslim God. However, in other cultures they have many, many gods. Either your friend has not been informed or doesn't care to find out.
