This is not true. Their gender is in their DNA. People just consider them "less" of a male or female because of the way THEY would feel if THEY were neutered! It's more of a joke than anything, people seem to think it's funny, but it is NOT true.
By the way, thank you for spaying and neutering your pets and not contributing to pet overpopulation! /clap

I agree with you. I have never heard anyone refer to their pet as an "it" though.
If a woman had a total hysterectomy, she would still be a woman, even though she could not reproduce. When a female animal is spayed it is basically the same operation.
Now when a male animal is neutered, it is more like becoming a eunuch, since the testicles are removed.

I agree with you they still have their sex. However, I think the "it" thing is really supposed to be a joke not that they think of them as not male or female...
Of course maybe I am biased and don't want to be an it because I am fixed too...

your absolutely right it doesn't mean that they are not the same sex as they were before. whoever those people who said that should think about what they said, now if that was true does that go for men and women as well? some people just don't know about the animal world because they are miss informed.

they are still going to be a male and a female. just because they do not have their sex parts or whatever you want to call them does not mean anything.

a woman that has had a hysterectomy is still a woman. a man that has had a vasectomy is still a man. the same with animals that have been "fixed", they are still what they were born as.

I feel the same way you do. It's better for the pet. The pet doesn't change.
