love it there. try NOT to go in the summertime when it's hot as balls over there. fall and winter are great times to see it. seoul and it's surronding citits ha all the ammenities of a bigger US city. lots of great places to eat both formal and informal. street vendors who sell food are often the best. lots of neat little shops and stores to visit as well as some bigger shopping malls. further south you go there are more historic and scenic places to see. mountiaintops, Cheju island, Busa/Pusan. itaewon is a popular shopping area with way too much stuff to buy and not enough time to see it all.
the only weird thing I'll say is the soda tastes different over there. like sprite and pepsi, just tastes different. and get used to hang drying your clothes there. have lots of electronic goodies and such over there but not many people invest in dryers for some reason.

I lived there for 13 months while in the Army. The people are friendly, the women are beautiful, lots of history (visit the palaces in Seoul), the country is beautiful.
Take a trip to Panmunjon so you can see the real face of Communism.
If you're in the military, take the time to learn some of the language and see the "real" Korea. The military towns are honky tonks - good for some fun, but they're not the real Korea.

i have lived here 3 years now and imo its one of those countries that you shouldnt just travel through but a country where you should stay for at least a year
The best thing about korea is not the scenery (although its good too) but the people and the culture

if you just travel Korea for a few weeks, then you would learn very little and get very frustrated because its not very geared for the traveller outside the big cities...if you like cities and popular tourist spots, then by all means just do the travel thing but you will miss out on the real korea

Been there 4 times.
It's okay but nothing special. Seen the temples, drove round Korea, seen pretty much everything, spent time with locals.
It was okay, I enjoyed the food, like Seoul and Pusan (I'm not a big fan of little towns/villages, only big cities), Lotte World in Seoul is a must see place.
I won't be going there again anytime soon though.
