Would prefer an answer from a southerner!

Hi,,,,, ok True Southern Man here,,,, and I cook......go to the store and purchase the whole cooked grits..... Not the instant,,,, not the 10 minute,,,, the 20 minute kind......

3 cups of water,boiling ,, add a tea spoon of butter in water and salt , about a Tabs..,,,,, add 1 cup of grits per 4 servings.. if you have more people add water,,and go up on the grits...

cook in boiler,, stirring about every 2 - 5 minutes,,, you dont want them to stick...... let them cook for about 20 minutes or more.... add more butter,, and serve,,,, good with fried eggs,,, or just about anything.....salt and pepper to taste.......(if this isnt good enough,,come to my house ,, I will teach you)..........

Yum yum,,,,, I'm hungry now.....

You would probably use ears of corn with a coffee grinder. Personally I just buy Jim Dandy and follow the directions on the bag except less water.

are you referring to cooking grits purchased from a store or making grits from scratch?

Buy a box of it at the market, and cook it like you would cornmeal mush.

Scrape all of the grease out of your oven and then then fri it in a pan.

i dunno if you can make "homemade" grits but you can buy them then cook them
