They sell a spray at most pet stores called bitter apple. You can spray that where they are chewing and they wont do it any more.

Bitter Apple is great BUT it doesn't work on all dogs! My silly dog loves it and chews even more. You can use hot pepper sauce but supervise carefully and make sure the pup has immediate access to water if you do this.

I was totally unable to get my pup to stop chewing so we got a crate and used that to train her properly. She still loves her crate and goes in there all the time, but she was about 14 months old before she stopped chewing non-toy items and, when she's stressed, she still will. (Our other dog had to be put down two weeks ago, and Tessa reacted by destroying a cushion, two laundry baskets, four pairs of underwear and a telephone.) We weren't too hard on her as the whole family was grieving.

Most dogs give up chewing around one year, but some chew all their lives. I highly recommend the crate method of training! Good luck and enjoy your pup - with any luck, this stage will pass.

He needs to be watched, and not allowed to do as he pleases. Pups can't be allowed too much freedom. Use an ex-pen when he can't be watched. Make sure he has shelter and water food. But really he should be in the house living with the family. I would never allow my dogs to stay outside. Its not safe to allow them to free roam.

if you have chew toys for your pup, play with him/her that way you will take your pups mind off the cushions and the water hose.

We have used Tabasco (of course any hot sauce would do!) on places that get chewed. It startles them but as long as they have water to drink the puppy is fine!

You can purchase bitter spray at a pet store or your vet office. Or sometimes it is called "chew stop"

He is teething. He needs a chewy rind. Get him something with a little more flavor and he will be a good boy. Pigs ears are good too.

Hot sauce definitely works, just make sure there's plenty of water available.
