Shouldn't we have a better understanding of what Muslims believe?

Most of us don't really know what Muslims believe. American kids who are converting to Islam don't know what they truly believe.
We NEED to know!!

I am Christian and I have taken the time and effort to purchase, and read (Yes, I actually read it) a copy of the Qur'an in order to see directly from Islam what Muslims are taught and believe.

Read the following verses:
The Qur'an, Surah V 51 says; O you who believe! do not take the Jew and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

In the Qur'an's Surah IX, v.30 it also says: And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!

Islam teaches Muslims to hate and destroy Jews and Christians. It is not a religion of love and tolerance for their brother human beings. They are to "Strike the infidel at the neck"

A "simple version of some of Islam's more outrageous beliefs" is NOT going to offer a better understanding. Actually sitting down and having an adult conversation with a Muslim is a better way to go.

That example is a parable. It's not literally true. You have to suspend just as much disblief to think Jesus turned 5 loaves and fishes into 5000 as to believe fishes tempted people to catch them.

How about you get a better understanding of what Muslims believe by asking some muslims what they believe?

In response to the defiant one - Nazi Germany was a state, a state can be held accountable for its actions. Islam is a religion, therefore everyone believes different things by definition. Both the UVF and IRA classed themselves as Christians, yet they blew people up and gun people down all the time. Does that mean all Christians are like that?

I don't think you have a bloody clue about ANYTHING Islam teaches. Okay yes, bad things have been happening under their name but that doesn't give people like you to stereotype muslims and such.

I'm sorry that in the past 6 years out of the 1500 years muslims have been on this earth really took a toll on you. Did you hate Japanese people when they were put in concentration camps because of WWII? Did you call them traitors and such. And now look, Japan is a great friend of ours today. People like you shouldn't live in the present so idiotically. When a muslim meets another person he says Aslam alikum (Peace be upon). Islam means to be in peace with God, Yourself and the rest of the world. Please dont spoil a beautiful word like this by construeing the context when u Say it means "submission".

Muslims believe all that the christians and jews believe. We are almost the same religion. U may not understand how much we respect Jesus son of maryam (Peace be upon them) U may not understand how we respect his long line of family amoung whom many prophets were born.

But we differ in two things. Islam belives in Logic and it belives in monotheism. When Judism and Christianity crosses this line thts where we part our ways.

Of all the religions in the world Islam is the only religion that is not named after a person or a place. It is a concept that deserves to be understood if not followed.

As i said it is a relgion of logic. It is a religion of peace but sometimes showing the other cheek is not the best option.

Please understand that we dont want to kill ourselves or any one else. Just look at the flash points all over the world. Everyone is killing us. In palestine they are rounding us up into the biggest prison in the world and that too in land that belonged to them. In Iraq u know wat the army is doing. Ok sadam was the enemy but y are the people being Punished for that.

Look at Kashmir. So many were slaughtered in Bosnia. Look wht the philiphines is doing in mindanao just because they want self rule. Look at chechnya and afghanistan.

Logically speaking muslims are dying everyday. The muslim thinks ok im going to die anyway whether i sit home or i go out. SO let me die but maybe my death will bring some peace to my family and be saved from these tyrants.

We want peace more than you. No sane human wants to live in a warzone. No 1 likes to c his all his family members die day by day.

But the irony is our enemies are not only stong. They also control the media which doesnt give us fair image.

Look at lebenon, Israel attacks and bombs innocent people but still the world is behind them and urges lebonon for restraint. TO me it means "dont budge while the israelis shoot. we dont want them to miss.Die quietly dont make such a fuss about it".

altleast Do us a little justice by understanding us, before u wipe us out!

I am an american who reverted to Islam at age 28. I was aware of what this beautiful religion teaches.
I can not count how many ignorant , uneducated people who claim to be Christians (but don't even go to church) have tried to argue with me about religion. It's pointless to speak with people like that because their ignorance shines through!

Ignorance is the worst enemy of the mankind and that is exactly what we are doing when we hate people without knowing about their believes.
I have studied the eastern religions and Islam is a peaceful religion. what is going now in the middle east is a reaction of what the Israel state done to the Lebanon's people in the past few months from kidnapping and killing innocent people.

I actually believe that "education and tolerance" are a must in the world we live in today. We are just going to destroy it if we do not learn understanding and tolerance.

PS,, I just learned this morning that 2 families that we are very close to were evacuated from Lebanon. They are great people and good Americans with Lebanese heritage.
