If the Trinity was in fact true (i,e, Father (God), Son (Jesus), Holy Spirit; 3 in 1 & 1 in 3) why is it that a human can only receive salvation when he believes that Christ is his savior and not when he worships God alone when you say that both Christ and God are one in the same? Please, I ask this with only the intention of knowing the reasoning behind this, not to insult or provoke anyone; and please, no rude or hurtful bashing of Christianity or other religions.

Marky Mark: but is God not doing the forgiving?

2006-07-30 09:12:30 · update #1

Though i respect your answers, many of you are going around the question. I'm not asking why Jesus died for our sins, or even why if we believe in that, we would receive salvation. My question is: why accepting Jesus as a savior, and thanking or asking forgiveness from God are different when thanking God is like thanking Jesus, and worshipping God is like worshipping Jesus (i.e. because of the Trinity).

Since the trinity doctrine is utterly and completely a lie, there's no reason to even suppose any truth to it. The Bible is extremely clear when it speaks of there being only ONE God, whose name is Jehovah (Psalms 83:18), and that Jesus Christ is the SON of God, a being created BY God (Colossians 1:15, Revelation 3:14). The holy spirit isn't a person at all, but rather a force, the force that God uses to accomplish his will. Jesus Christ is NOT God. He never was and never will be. In his time on earth, he never accepted worship, and never took credit for the things he taught. He always pointed to his Father and God as the source of his miracles and teachings. It dishonors both God and Christ to claim that they are one and the same.

Actually we're not going around the question. Since the very idea of a trinity is utterly false, asking for forgiveness from God is NOT the same asking it of Jesus. True Christians don't ask of it from Jesus, they ask it through Jesus to God. Jesus Christ is the mediator between man and God. To ask anything of God, we have to pray in Jesus' name to God. The same applies to your statement about worshiping God being the same as worshiping Jesus. It's NOT the same. Jesus is NOT to receive our worship, only his Father (and his God) is; and Jesus himself set the example in that by deflecting his worship to a higher source and instructing others to do the same.

The idea of the Trinity was developed by the Catholics as a way to explain God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit... but this idea has left some people confused. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are three DIFFERENT people (for clarification- They are all God(s)) with their own roles. The reason they are considered one is because they are in full agreement with each other at all times. All three are in charge, they never sin, they always do what is best, etc. So, here are some examples to prove they are three separate people:
1. In Genesis, the Bible says "we" and "us"- proving there is more the one person.
2. When Jesus came to Earth and was baptized by John, God spoke to Jesus in an audible voice that everyone could hear.
3. When Jesus ascended he said he was sending the comforter (Holy Spirit) to be with us, while he was sitting at the right hand of the father.
And those are just a few examples, there are many more. Jesus said if you had seen him, you had seen the Father. That's because he was carrying out God's will.
Why does Salvation come through Christ? In the Old Testament it was all about God. God set down the laws, but no one could keep his commandments. So, God sent Jesus to be a sacrifice for ALL sins, for everyone... therefore, to be right in the eyes of God, you must accept the sacrifice and to do so you must accept Christ. So, example in the Old Testament, if you sinned you sacrificed an animal to God and your sins were covered. That wasn't working. So God changes the rules and said forget the animals and accept Jesus as the sacrifice. So, that is now the way to be forgiven. In the Old Testament there was only ONE way to God (when you sinned) that was through the blood of animals. Now, there is only ONE way and that is through Christ.

I believe in the trinity in that there is one in three. To me this means that there are three different beings who all share the Godhead. My belief is that each of these three has a particular thing that he does. Although all of them are as one, I believe that the being of God the Father created all things, I believe that Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and I believe that when Jesus ascended into heaven he said that he would not leave man alone and he sent the Holy Spirit to the earth. I believe that a human can only receive salvation when he believes that the being of Jesus Christ died on the cross as the final and ultimate sacrifice for our sins and also when he accepts this sacrifice as a gift from God.

When man was in his original form (without sin) he was able to talk to God directly. But after he chose his own path (sin) instead of obeying God, he distanced himself spiritually from God. And this distance was over come by (at first) the sacrificial system. But the sacrificial system did not forgive sins, it only "covered" them and that is why they needed to continue the sacrifices. But after the Hebrew Law (1st five books of the Old Testament) were given, it was clear that the Law of God was impossible to please God through one's own actions. And we cannot traverse the distance between God and ourselves on own. That is why Jesus (2nd person in the trinity) came to offer himself as our sacrifice. As a sacrifice that will last for all eternity. And so anyone who believes in Jesus for salvation, has their sins forgiven and not just covered as in the old testament. Also, we know that this was his plan from the start because there were many prophesies regarding the coming messiah (deliverer) who would bring salvation to both the Jew and the Gentile (non jew). So, if you were not Jewish, or didn't become Jewish, you could not come to God at all. That's why it was so amazing and revolutionary. The bottom line. 1) It is the way it is because God designed it that way. 2) It points to Christ as the only way to God. 3) It is different from all religions and pseudo religions (cults included) because all you have to do is believe in Jesus (because he has done all the work, literally dying for me and you) to recieve salvation.
Here is one example from the BIble that show the trinity:
Rev 1:17 I am the first and last - spoken by God the Father.
Rev. 21:6 I am the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end- God the Father.
Rev: 22:13-16 I am the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end- Jesus speaking.

This is just one example. Thanks and God Bless

In the book of John 1:1 we can read that God the Father, the Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit were all one before the foundations of the earth. Genesis 1 introduces us to the creator, God and Jesus. Matthew 3:16 explaines why God sent his Son to earth. Jesus is the Key, he is the truth & the life.
We need Jesus because we are sinners and we are stained with sin, the blood of Jesus cleanses is and allows us to enter the presence of God.

Hello friend,
I respect the wording of your question.
Believing in and accepting Christ as your Savior, is not all the Bible has to say about Salvation. It is deeper than that.
As for worshiping God, an unbeliever can say he is worshiping God, and perhaps believe he is, but if he has not accepted the finished work of Christ on the Cross, he is still an unbeliever and his worship profits him nothing in the sight of God.

I answer this in sincerity and pray you can tell I am not trying to be sarcastic or critical regarding your question.

Believing in God is good, but read James 2:19 to see what God says there about it. The study of Salvation is of utmost importance and I strongly urge to to engage in it.
Blessings,
2 Tim. 2 :7

God loves us, and God is Spirit, so in order for Him to walk among us and be a wounded healer, so to speak, the Father sent Jesus among us to walk with us and understand the human condition, walk a mile in our shoes, as it were.
The Bible states that without the shedding of blood, there is not forgiveness of sins. Hebrews 9:22
So, Jesus, knowing His Father's plan and willingly going through with it, He gave us a way to get back in line with the Father's will.
This is why the Father says that we need to accept what He did for us, because it ripped the heart right out of Him, but that is how much He loves us. The resurrection is the acceptance of that sacrifice. Yes, they are One, but each is disticnt in their own aspects and purpose. The Father is Lord and Judge over all, the Son is the Living Word and His purpose is to speak the Truth of what the Father states so that all may return to HIs heart. The Spirit is a Helper and a Guide to help us until Christ returns.

My interpretation of this trinity revolves around believing that God equates with a Source (the light, the word, or whatever analogy you choose), the Son equates with incarnate beings (man, son of god, son of man...again.. choose your euphanism) and Holy Spirit is the stream of (light, energy, soul, chi, ....) that comes from the source and animates us. We are spiritual beings, that come from the source, made flesh. Father, Son, holy spirit, mother, daughter, holy spirit, parent, child, holy spirit, creator, created, holy spirit. This is salvation, this understanding, this is the channel for prayer. This also is modelled in other religions with other analogies but is basically the same structure. Source, data stream, end product. Worship God alone, or through Christ, whichever works best for you. Making the connection is what is important. :-)

Man had sinned and so man must pay for sin. This is why the Son of God came and assumed human nature. Christ is true man and true God in one person. Not God-man mix but true God in His divinity and true man in His humanity. This is how He was able to lay down His human life for sin and become the only mediator between God and man. God does not and will not overlook one sin. All must be punished either by the sinner himself, of by Jesus on the cross so that is why no man comes to God but through Jesus.

You must go through the Son to get to the Father. The Holy Spirit comes with the territory. Except 1 & get 3! not bad
