Yeah a tint light.The stuff they use in your hair for perms have chemicals in it which pretty much tend to lighten up your hair.With that you would not even highlights.

Yes, because it is causing damage to the hair, kind of like frying it. I had a friend who had really pretty black hair, after her perm she had this reddish brown cast to her hair. It looked so damaged that she let her perm grow out a bit then cut it off really short to get rid of that fried looking color.

Yeah and it could also dry it out big time after you get a perm you should use high quality salon reconstructor\ deep conditioner. And cut a little off the ends.
