Morel mushrooms are probably the best wild mushrooms found in the USA, but they are very hard to find. I know people who have their secret morel patches and they guard this information with their lives! When it's morel mushroom time, we slice them in half and fry them in a pan, then make ourselves sick (from eating so many, not cuz they're poisonous)!

Morels, but you have to find them growing wild. They love growing in areas that have had a recent burn. You have to take a little Sterno stove and a small pot (not aluminum). After you find them, get some water boiling, cut them and put into the water for about 30 seconds . Remove, add butter and a pinch of salt and enjoy.

steinpilsin....english translation stone mushrooms,found near the base of birch trees on peat, great fried with onions and bacon on toast.....we have them here in BC Canada
